Anyone care to explain the dinobots in a nutshell?

Why are they dinosaurs? Do they transform into anything else? Are they as intelligent as regular transformers? Are they more powerful?

Spoiler!

New protoforms were shuttled in the ark, and they wanted something to combat the constructicons who trned into the combiner Devastator, and they found a deposit of dinosaur fossils and allowed the protoforms to scan them to create the Dinobots

In the comics, it was because the Ark landed on Earth millions of years ago when dinosaurs were alive, and the Ark created the five Dinobots (using the forms of the planet's natives) for its defense before it ran out of power.

It was, of course, a comic book, so the fact that they were from different epochs was irrelevant.

This summation is the continuity of the Beast Wars TV series

Like others have said....

It's giant ****ing Dinosaur robots that **** shit up.

How can anyone not enjoy that?

Dinobots were the shit. This is the type of movie you smoke a bowl to and go, "Whoa, that explosion was AWESOME"

I was just about to add this. 80's cartoons were notorious for a constant cycle of New characters so they could sell more action figures and accessories. Plus, constantly 1 upping a certain character, so they'd have an updated look and outfit to go along with some increased power or New special ability.

It really was a $$$ grab, and back then with the absence of widescale computers and video games, there was a goldmine to make off this cartoon swag.

-King- 03-06-2014 11:14 PM

Dammit Michael Bay.

I'll see see. Sigh.

I enjoyed the first two movies for what they were, mindless fun. The third one was so bad I've never been able to watch the entire thing. It's so bad my 7yr old son begged me to turn it off.

None of them are "great", but I actually do think the 3rd one was the best of the 3, and 2 was just kinda shitty all around. The first for me was kinda a bore, simply because of the obligatory introduction story setup.

ThaVirus 03-07-2014 02:11 PM

Yeah, I'd say the second was the worst. I really hated Sam's death scene and the Primes reviving him. So ****ing stupid..

One thing that pisses me off, not just specifically about Transformers although it seems a lot more noticeable in the franchise than most, is the varying degree of difficulty Optimus had in fighting the main villain in each movie. In 1, he struggled to beat Megatron alone and would have died had it not been for Sam and the All Spark. In 2, he takes on Megatron, Starscream and some random helicopter at the same time and later on anally rapes The Fallen, Megatron and Starscream together (albeit with upgrades). Finally, in 3, he literally slaughters everyone in the ****ing movie, including Megatron without one of his arms.

I know why they do it but it's something that annoys me.

I feel like they learned how to fight hand to hand by watching / playing a lot of Street Fighter II.

Exactly, I don't go into a TF movie expecting too much, I just want to have mindless fun and the Bayformers movies have thus far delivered.

I would like to see them recapture some of the elements that made the first film as the first Transformers was actually a decent grade fim in my opinion.

JD10367 06-19-2014 02:26 PM

They just announced that this POS is 2 hours and 46 ****ing minutes long. So now Bay thinks he's Cecille B. DeMille apparently. Because, you know, this story is so intricate that it needs to be three quarters of an hour longer than "Star Wars". This film could be about an hour long: slo mo explosion, over dramatic music, hot chick yelling inaudibly, more explosions, deep gravelly robot voice, overacting lead man, bigger explosion... Lather, rinse, repeat.

On the other hand they could've used Nimoy again, but Bay probably didn't want to ask his Step-Uncle for another favor.

That's Bay for you. All his movies are looooooong. I think all the Transformers movies have been 2 1/2 hours.

IM just sort of "meh" on this.......its a sort of "been there, done that feeling" now similar to how the audience is starting to feel about Spider Man movies.

LMAO I was just sitting here laughing out loud reading some of the reviews. Richard Roeper said it was one of the most relentless films he's ever seen.

There's really no point in debating how good a Bay film is, or especially these Transformers films. They are all basically the same.

I have a blue ray player but I still call them DVDs. Plus I have several hundred of DVDs that I still watch (I buy in bulk when all these stores go belly up). I even have some VHS tapes too. I don't like most new TV shows on today. I just upgraded to a 55 inch flat screen in the man cave.

Its the strangest thing. its a film series that no one truly loves.

At least with a Lord of the Rings, Star Wars, Twilight, Hunger games, etc.....there is a continuing storyline and die hard fans that truly love them. Can anyone say the same about these films?

Its like people just go to them out of a sense of obligation to watch stuff blow up. The mind boggles....

Maybe they have good timing with the release dates. There is basically nothing new or recent worth seeing right now, nor has there been for a while, nor will there be soon as far as I know.

So people who haven't gone to the movies for a while are finally going back out because they know that at the very least they can be entertained by mindless action. They really aren't having to make choices right now.

Yea, thats some of it for sure. It feels like this summers slate of movies has been overall weak.

People love them because the adults and kids now grew up with transformers. People do not care about a plot for transformer movies, they want big ass robots battling.

Seriously? How to Train Your Dragon 2. 22 Jump Street. Apes will be out soon. I'm sure X Men and Godzilla are still playing in some larger theaters..

ThaVirus 06-29-2014 04:50 PM

Anyway, I just saw it. I thought it was great for what it was. There are tons of explosions, lens flares, forced comedy, and awkward cursing. If you were expecting something different, that's probably your problem..

Something I really liked about this one: the Autobots. In the previous three, I never liked any of them outside of Prime and Bumblebee. This time, they had the badass green one, the fat tank John Goodman, and my particular favorite, the samurai helicopter. That one had a really cool design.

... And the dinobots were ****ing awesome.

arrowheadnation 06-29-2014 05:28 PM

I hope they bring back Josh Duhamel for the next one so he can work with the Autobots again. It will help interconnect the first 3 films with the 4th one.

I think a large portion of the people who were going so see X-men and Godzilla did so a while back. The other two just don't get the people out as easily as any large budget action movie, especially one with familiar characters.

I haven't been since X-men until this movie and I bet a lot are the exact same way. There just isn't a lot of competition right now.
