Wonder if that was actually the worst first inning for any Royals home opener?

DeezNutz 04-13-2012 03:39 PM

FSKC commercial with Frank White still airing. LMAO.

Now over to you, Rex!

DeezNutz 04-13-2012 03:40 PM

Rex with insightful analysis: probably won't try to bunt for a base hit with two strikes.

Double plays are killing us!

Injury...in fairness.

However, Maier is far more talented.

He is the backup from AAA brought up to allow Mitch and himself to fill in as needed...not much different than Mitch except speed is better and a slightly weaker hitter. He is a temporary fill in for Cain. Not really worth getting worked up over.

Problem is... he is a starter for now. A guy like him should never be out of AAA. Ohhh well... this is very 2005 ish. Second time in last 2 games this team has looked very much like the 2005 team.

It's disappointing that I turn on the radio and it's the 2nd inning and it's 7-1.

JFC, they used confetti? Didn't learn from the MUtts?

mr. tegu 04-13-2012 03:56 PM

Moustakas just missed making this a game again.

The good news, Gordon 2 for 3.

So did Hoch get hurt pretty badly? Let's hope.

petegz28 04-13-2012 04:11 PM

2 outs. WTF does Dyson stop to see if it gets caught??

petegz28 04-13-2012 04:12 PM

Seriously...with Dyson's speed if he just hauls ass when Frenchy makes contact we probably get a run..instead the dumb ass stopped to see if the ball was going to get caught as if it mattered

Blankey 04-13-2012 04:15 PM

This game is one giant cocktease

Any pitcher we have in the system can pitch like Luke did today.... he is much closer to giving up 7 runs a game than giving up 3.

I thought it was all of the confetti leftover from the Bruce Weber hiring celebration.

Why? Teaford looks like he'd make a better starter....Hoch did what he always does...when things get a little rough, he gives up the big inning and lets things get out of control.

DeezNutz 04-13-2012 04:27 PM

At least Betancourt can hit, right? Not a bad acquisition.

Great play by Moose, though. See that tonight on SportsCenter.

At least you haven't worn out that nugget of creativity, yet. Good news is, you can probably recycle it a few times more before people start getting really sick of it.

Eh. He was showing signs last season. He pitched bad in that first inning but also had a bit of bad luck with the check swing line drive and the ball sailing on Dyson. Gordon got chances and Houchevar will get this one more season before the system is really ready to step up.

I'd be throwing large stones if my AD just ran success and hired Weber. Makes it easy to talk a wealth of shit.

And before we hear "SUCCESS???!!" Yes, success. You're K-State. Under Martin, you went to tournaments. That's success at K-State.

Good luck with that a few years from now.

Stanley Nickels 04-13-2012 04:33 PM

Wasnt Bannister (in)famous for the huge first inning meltdown, followed by five-six innings of blank sheets?

I was actually kind of thinking the same thing about Teford. Since we do know Luke has trouble preventing the big inning perhaps he should be taken out sooner and use a long reliever specialist. Things like today happen to most everyone. It's just compounded and looks worse because of first inning and opening day.

DeezNutz 04-13-2012 04:35 PM

Hoch logic demands that he throw a one-hitter next time out.

Al Bundy 04-13-2012 04:35 PM

2005 Royals!!!!!!!! YES!!!!!!

Thank you, Rex, for informing us that they are not booing the hit, but saying "Moose."

mr. tegu 04-13-2012 04:37 PM

Hoch put us in a hole but by now we should probably be complaining about the pitiful hitting with guys on base. Another rally destroyed by a double play just now.

Yes, this too. We can hit, just havnt learned yet how to timely hit and string hits together to score runs.

tk13 04-13-2012 04:41 PM

It's amazing how people flip out. I don't know, maybe things will totally collapse now. It's possible. Today was the first time that Hochevar went less than 5 innings, gave up more than 5 runs, or gave up more than 3 runs in an inning since July 9th last year. That was pre-All Star Break. Let's all panic now.

mr. tegu 04-13-2012 04:41 PM

That Cabrera homerun pretty much guarantees we score 4 in the 9th.

I'm calm.

What was our record at that point? I honestly believe that Hochevar is a mental midget, and even the very way that he entered the league underscores this point.

Yes, because things that happened before guys like Moose and Hosmer were in grade school are clearly impairing this teams ability to succeed now. Hosmer grounded out in the 7th with two guys on and a chance to get back in because he thought "Crap, what would Craig Paquette do?" I think 81-81 would be a great season with this team, but there's no point in arguing with you. You complain about everything and aren't interested in actual conversation, you're hoping for misery.

You've been on here for like 10 years, and at the beginning of every year you come on here and say "Same ol' Royals." We are going to be 3-4 after today. That's 7 games. This may be a 100 loss team but we don't know yet. I don't even think this team is going to be as good as most people, but all you do is complain. There have been a couple miserable losses and there have been a couple solid wins and a road series win against a team that will probably make the playoffs.

Don't. Don't watch. Don't make yourself suffer. But you do. Because you enjoy suffering. Or you're an idiot. I'm not sure. Same ol' Deberg.

DeezNutz 04-13-2012 04:56 PM

These types of games happen throughout the course of a season. That's baseball. Just pretty depressing to see this as the home opener for the "Our Time" year.

Great thing: another one tomorrow.

KCUnited 04-13-2012 05:28 PM

Same clown show. Same county fair atmosphere for 'opening day'.

Complete LOL at all the build up just to shit yourself in the first inning. Gordon hadn't even wiped the gold glove grin off his face before the familiar scent of Hochit whaffed under his nose. That's 2 Epic Lulz in as many games, but it's Our Time, whatever.

although, on a different note: there was a shit load of drunks out here today. i mean, out of your mind drunk. don't get me wrong, i'm not gonna stand on a soapbox etc. i like to drink, and i do so often.
but it was one of the biggest drunk-fests i've ever been associated with.

Went to the game, great times until the damn first inning. Betancourt is such a worthless sack of shit and should've had that ball. Maybe the damage is minimized and the Royals come back.

I got pretty tipsy and walked around the park after the 3rd inning. Actually i was super buzzed before i came in, but its opening day. Great atmosphere around the K, but would've been nice to have been in the game a few innings
