Being the uncultured oaf that I am, I didn't realize that the album is essentially a retelling of Voltaire's Candide. If you enjoy the album, definitely checkout Candide: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Candide

It's really a phenomenal album. Wonder which ones they'll do live? They did Caravan and BU2B during the Time Machine tour...I'm expecting Headlong flight to be a staple, The Anarchist is one of the best songs on the album IMO, i hope they do that one.

KC_Lee 06-30-2012 08:42 AM

Finally downloaded the album, simply awesome. Some of their best work in years.

Mr. Flopnuts 06-30-2012 08:51 AM

I haven't fallen in love with an album like this in many, many, moons.

yeah it's an awesome album.
i've been getting into the Geddy Lee solo album My Favorite Headache again.
sounds better now than it did when it came out in 2000 for some reason.

To me, "Halo Effect" sounds like it could have come off of My Favorite Headache.

It's a nice change of pace from time to time. The title track and Working At Perfect are the two i seem to listen to the most on that one.

I've been mixing in some Vapor Trails stuff when listening to the new album - a lot of it's very fast paced (for Rush) and fits in well together. One Little Victory, Secret Touch, and Nocturne in particular go quite well in setlists with BU2B, The Anarchist and Headlong Flight.

It's amazing how much they change, break new ground, yet still sound like Rush and never sell out. Total badasses.

BoneKrusher 07-04-2012 09:51 AM

i forgot about this track from Grace Under Pressure, thought i'd share it with you RUSH Fans:

So apprently there will be a novel to go along with the album;

http://www.amazon.com/Clockwork-Ange...ockwork+angels

Quote:

A remarkable collaboration that is unprecedented in its scope and realization, this exquisitely wrought novel represents an artistic project between the bestselling science fiction author Kevin J. Anderson and the multiplatinum rock band Rush. The newest album by Rush, Clockwork Angels, sets forth a story in Neil Peart’s lyrics that has been expanded by him and Anderson into this epic novel. In a young man’s quest to follow his dreams, he is caught between the grandiose forces of order and chaos. He travels across a lavish and colorful world of steampunk and alchemy with lost cities, pirates, anarchists, exotic carnivals, and a rigid Watchmaker who imposes precision on every aspect of daily life. The mind-bending story is complemented with rich paintings by the five-time Juno Award winner for Best Album Design, Hugh Syme.

Yup. A friend of mine ordered some kind of fan pack from the UK that included a little booklet with the first three chapters. Nothing really ground breaking in the first three chapters, but I'm hoping the rest of the novel will help to flesh out some of the album (not that it really needs it).

I think they are planning on a spring tour-prob do all the outside sheds. I am sure they will come through here. This is a good market for them-even though they get Zero radio play.

Their show is amazing this time around!! They added a string section and the songs just come alive. They have the pyro and a huge light show as well.

It is amazing they play at such a high level still- prob better than ever- and that says a lot.

There is absolutely not a band out there that can match them in concert. Flawless!!

Huffmeister 10-26-2012 09:58 AM

I started reading the book, but it was a pretty generic fantasy "peasant boy living a simple life gets swept up into the bigger wider world" introduction that really didn't hold me interest.

And the way that lyrics from all albums were abhorrently shoe-horned into the narrative made me cringe every time they came up.

I'll probably get through it eventually, but I have to admit that I'm disappointed so far.

lol Yep I had a tough time at first- but it kind of grows on you. Lots of Rush references- he is definately a fan. I lost track of how many lyrics were put into the text. I really like the art work though.

Personally I think Neil should have just wrote the book himself? His other books are excellent- especially Ghost Rider- a classic!!

I am planning to see them in Virginia Beach this year- my son just got stationed there with the Navy!!

Can't wait.

This is one of the Biggest productions they have done-Amazing show! There is not a band out there that can touch them.

Some of the songs are 20 years old now and I think they figured it was time to dust them off. They sounded fresh and new. They filmed in Dallas and will be putting a DVD out soon- so I think they wanted some songs never recorded live for it as well.

I finally found it. There's no official date yet, but if you go to http://www.rush.com/clockwork-angels...tes-announced/ it says:

Quote:

Reminder that we have SUMMER tour date details to come! Cities included so far are Hershey, Wantagh, Saratoga, Chicago, Cincinnati, Milwaukee, Boston, Calgary, Vancouver, Portland, Salt Lake City, Denver, Kansas City and for the first time in decades, a return to Grand Rapids and Halifax. Stay tuned for the summer leg announcement with all the details.

It's actually very reminiscent of Yes' "Heart of the Sunrise."

Yep saw hem in St. louis the first leg of Clockwork Angels- They have Never played better. I have seen them at least once every tour since Signals. The last 2 decades I see them 2 and 3 times a tour. This has been the best show out of them all.

Dartgod 08-02-2013 10:26 AM

I'm bummed that I will miss another show. At the time tickets went on sale, I wasn't sure if I'd be in town or not. Turns out I will be, but not interested in paying scalpers prices.

I've had success going to Sprint Center and buying tickets from fans with extras, not scalpers. I got great seats for Van Halen and Jimmy Buffet for face value. Both were for two tickets which seems to be the norm for extras. More than that you're probably going to pay high dollar.

I know the feeling all to well. Rush has come through Nashville twice and I have missed both shows. First one (Snakes & Arrows tour) I was in Austrailia, second time (Clockwork Angels tour) I just did not have the money for tickets.

Bummer...

This is a Rush show- more than likely you can get tickets from a fan that has extra.

Last show of the tour, hope to see you there!!

Great show. The crowd was into it, especially the last few songs. A Paul Rudd sighting as well when he conducted the strings section for a bit. My throat is raw and I'm not looking forward to getting into the office tomorrow. Worth it though.

Yep what a day! Great Rush party at Mcfaddens-before and after- with an Amazing show in between. Rush rocked Spint Center!!

Lzen 08-05-2013 09:39 AM

Jeff, we looked around in McFadden's but didn't see you. A nice couple from Nebraska were there with their nephew and invited us to share their table when they saw we were wondering around.

The show was great. The last time I saw Rush was in 2002 (?) at Sandstone on the Vapor Trails tour. This show was better. Very enjoyable. My friend Kelly is a big Rush fan and has seen them many times. He said this was the best show he'd ever seen. Those guys are all around 60 so it is possible this may have been the very last one ever. Hopefully not but I imagine it gets pretty tough going out on the road at that age.

I had 4 tables reserved on the lower level. I got there at 2 and had some lunch. It filled up pretty fast- I was the one wearing a Rush shirt-lol Sorry I missed you guys it was pretty packed in there.

I agree- awesome show. I hope they can keep it going- I mean the Stones are 90-lol but it is a lot easier to play Satisfaction than YYZ-lol I was at that Vapor Trails show too!! I saw them 3 times that tour- I really thought Rush was done after Neil's tragedies- what an Epic comeback. They are releasing the remastered VP soon as well.

gretnanefan 08-08-2013 04:02 PM

we had a wonderful time in kc town. great dinner at bristols and watching the best band ever tear the sprint center.
