OH! Does anyone remember the METAL army play set that (I think) was blue and silver... all I remember was they were some special forces type thing and they may have had an eagle or hawk in the name... it was like GI Joe's but all metal, heavy as shit. (and slightly smaller than GI Joe)

Side note: if you rummage through my parents garage you can still find boxes with almost every MicroMachine made, most of the GI Joe vehicles and some sweet Iron Man, Avengers and SpiderMan comics!

HAHA, well I WAS spoiled with toys... BUT also there were a lot of shared toys because I had a cousin my age and one slightly older and we all spent a great deal of our childhood hanging out at my grandparents...

Those were around in the 1940's... (Bob Dole has his father's hanging on his wall.)

4th and Long 11-08-2011 12:06 PM

We had REAL toys when I was a kid.

Take for example, LAWN DARTS!

http://www.dabbleback.com/article_im...=article&id=21

The object was to set up the plastic circle in the yard and then toss the dart into the air and make in land in the circle.

Yeah, ... that's not what we did with them.

It became more of a game of chicken. Throw it up in the air and then try and get out of the way at the last moment. If you were too slow, well, those sharp metal points could be a little dangerous.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...awnDartKid.jpg

It was also fun to throw them at each other, or at drunken relatives.

Flashback! My parents couldn't afford daycare, so I went to work w/ them, (they owned a small business in Wichita). I remember stealing change out of my dad's desk drawer so I could walk up to the corner store and buy Garbage Pail Kids cards. I would leave the store w/ a few packages and rip into them and start combining them to complete the pic on the back.

What a perfect thing to pass on, he'll never forget it.

The best thing is, is that to a kid, they might as well be the real deal, ya start feeling like a real man strutting around with it.

blaise 11-10-2011 09:53 AM

We used to put little action figures in and on a little Fisher Price houseboat we had, put it out in the back yard, and then sit on the deck and assassinate the little action figures with the BB gun.
We also would draw pictures of the teachers, tape the paper to a cardboard box, and then shoot them.

Yep, I also still have my old Stevens single-shot .410 shotgun waiting for him when he turns 9. I shot a lot of pheasant with that old gun.
I wasn't strong enough to pull back the hammer on it so my dad put a little extension on it. Its still on there for my boy.

At the time it was one of the few 'toons out there with a strong female character.

There'd be 3 or 4 of us guys playing out in the yard and some neighborhood girl would show up and say "I'm the Blue one!"

I can't find pictures online, but I really liked a toy that I think was called a "Jumping Jimmy". It was basically a tube with canvas over the top to jump on.

Another one might have been a GI Joe game. You shot darts out of your base at someone's else and if you hit a certain spot on the other guys base it would pop up and you had to try to get all 4.

There was also a thing were you typed in words and it said it back. I always thought it was funny to hear it say "Shit".
