ORTON BOUNCES BACK!

Kyle Orton didn't hear a boo in his second preseason game.

Alright, so he was playing on the road. But even the Broncos faithful had to be encouraged with what they saw on television.

Orton threw for 177 yards in the first half against Seattle, leading the Broncos to ten points in their first two possessions. Only a drop in the end zone by Jabar Gaffney kept Orton from having a nearly perfect night.

After the Jabar gaffe, the Broncos went for a touchdown on fourth-and-goal from the one. With pressure coming from his right side, Orton made a Jake Plummer-like left-handed throw that was picked off in the end zone. The blooper-reel-worthy play marred an otherwise impressive effort, which included many plays straight out of the 2008 Patriots playbook.

"I've got a lot of confidence right now," Orton told the Denver Post. "This is the best offense I've ever played with. I've got a lot of talent around me."

Perhaps Orton's most talented teammate, Brandon Marshall, was left behind in Denver. Coach Josh McDaniels commented vaguely about it after the game.

"Every player who was ready and able to play in this game was here, and all the guys we didn't think were ready and able stayed back home," McDaniels said.

After the game, there was some question regarding the availability of Orton's backup Chris Simmsm who left the game with an ankle injury, and who was seen on crutches after the game.

So, whether Broncos fans like it or not, Orton is going to be their man.

And they should save their boos for another quarterback; Jay Cutler and the Bears visit Denver next Sunday night on NBC.

Quesadilla Joe 08-23-2009 06:54 PM

SEATTLE — Bring it on, Jay Cutler. Come back to town next week with that big arm and nonchalant attitude.

The Broncos will have a quarterback of their own waiting to match right-handed pass for right-handed pass.

Kyle Orton may not be able to match Cutler mph per mph. And his desperation left-handed throws may only conjure up images of Jake Plummer, not Cutler.

But Orton is not one to blink. Knock him, boo him, bruise him, curse him. Just don't expect Orton, the man who replaced Cutler as the Broncos' quarterback this season, to crumble under heavy criticism.

Coming within a dropped pass by Jabar Gaffney of delivering a near-flawless performance, Orton settled for an encouraging effort in the Broncos' 27-13 preseason loss to the Seattle Seahawks on Saturday night.

Orton was examined harshly following an inauspicious Broncos debut last week when he threw three interceptions in his first three possessions during a loss at San Francisco. He fired back with sweet redemption in preseason game No. 2.

Down 7-0 before stepping on the field in Qwest Stadium, arguably the loudest venue in the NFL, Orton completed 6-of-8 passes while leading the Broncos on a 78-yard scoring drive that culminated with a 3-yard touch pass to Brandon Stokley in the end zone.

"I've got a lot of confidence right now," Orton said after the game. "This is the best offense I've ever played with. I've got a lot of talent around me."

Broncos coach Josh McDaniels not only didn't waver in his faith in Orton following the San Francisco debacle last week, he didn't let backup quarterback Chris Simms take any first-team reps during the final week of training camp.

Orton rewarded his coach's trust. He followed his touchdown drive by going 3-for-3 in his second drive to move within field-goal range for kicker Matt Prater.

Orton finished the first quarter with a 131.8 passer rating by completing 9-of-11 for 92 yards and the touchdown.

"He played fairly well. There is still some room for improvement," McDaniels said. "He did what we think he's capable of doing, which is throwing the ball accurately and moving the offense."

His strong performance should ease tension as the Broncos get ready to play their preseason home opener next Sunday night in a nationally televised game against Cutler and the Chicago Bears.

Cutler passed for more than 4,500 yards for the Broncos last season and earned his first Pro Bowl berth, but a late-season collapse cost coach Mike Shanahan his job after 14 seasons. An offseason rift with McDaniels, Shanahan's replacement, preceded a trade that sent Cutler to the Bears in exchange for Orton and draft picks.

Orton arrived in Denver with a reputation as a game manager, a quarterback who wasn't flashy but had a knack for playing just well enough to win. While Cutler had a 17-20 record with the Broncos, Orton was 21-12 as a starter with the Bears.

Not that Broncoland was sold on Orton's abilities last week in San Francisco. Although Orton moved the ball against the 49ers, one turnover led to another.

With all eyes nervously upon him Saturday, Orton responded. Besides his two scoring drives in the first quarter, Orton directed the Broncos on another long march to the Seahawks' 1-yard line in the second.

But a pass went through Gaffney's outstretched hands in the back of the end zone, and with the Broncos going for it on a fourth down, Orton was forced to make a what-do-I-have-to-lose gamble.

Under a heavy rush, Orton flipped the ball left-handed into the end zone. The ball wobbled into the hands of Seattle defensive back Ken Lucas for an interception. It's the kind of maneuver Orton may want to reconsider during the regular season.

McDaniels also addressed his decision to not bring star receiver Brandon Marshall on the trip.

"Every player who was ready and able to play in this game was here, and all the guys we didn't think were ready and able stayed back home," he said.

Asked if that meant physically able or mentally able, McDaniels said "both."

Key moment

Thin line to tread

Had Jabar Gaffney snagged Kyle Orton's pass in the end zone, everyone would be talking about Orton's stellar performance. Instead, the most talked-about moment will be the QB's left-handed red-zone interception two plays later.

Key stat

-6

After Tony Scheffler's and Kenny McKinley's fumbles in the third quarter, the Broncos now have six turnovers (four interceptions and two fumbles) in the preseason without creating one. The Broncos' defense caused only 13 turnovers in the 2008 regular season.
Did you notice?

Prater in a good place

Matt Prater should be feeling plenty secure about his job. First, he was given the chance to rest during training camp to stay fresh, then he hit a 53-yard field goal in the first quarter Saturday night.

At 5-foot-11, 217 pounds, Moreno is a mirror image of future Hall of Famer LaDainian Tomlinson. Everything that they do on the field is comparable, from their ability to their physique, even their versatility; it’s all eerily similar. And the irony is that Moreno ended up in the AFC West, the same division that Tomlinson tore up for the last decade. Moreno is a tremendously gifted offensive weapon who finished his career at Georgia with 1,400 yards and 16 touchdowns. He runs with outstanding pad level, displays great vision and tremendous cutback ability. He has a quick first step and is lethal on the edge. He’s deceptively strong between the tackles and will fight for extra yards. He’s faster than his timed speed suggests and has the potential to take it the distance from anywhere on the field. Moreno plays with a lot of emotions and is a high energy player who can occasionally be taken out of his game if he’s not productive. The upside of Moreno is limitless, his talent is obvious, and judging from the success that the ’08 running back class had in the NFL last year, don’t be surprised if he’s the starter on opening day.
http://profootball.scout.com/2/887802.html
Quote:

Again, comparing Moreno to Tomlinson is a bit unfair, but when you watch footage of Tomlinson at TCU and Moreno at Georgia, you can’t help but compare the two. The running styles of Tomlinson and Moreno are very similar. When Tomlinson starred at TCU, he held the ball up high and tight in the open field (he’s lowered the ball a bit over the years), not allowing defenders the opportunity to force it out. Moreno carries the ball in the same manner, and that’s why he rarely fumbles.

Their ability to get through the smallest crease and use their animal-like vision to cut smoothly is uncanny. Their body build is average in stature, but strong and compact, and can take a pounding between the tackles. They’re savvy enough to realize if they go down when crowded by defenders they will avoid a big hit. They possess toughness in pass protection and are aware of their surroundings to be able to slip out in the flat and provide their quarterback with a passing option.

Moreno is a tremendously gifted offensive weapon who is a threat to take it to the house any time he touches the ball. He runs with outstanding pad level, displays great vision and cutback ability. He has a quick first step and is lethal on the edge. He’s deceptively strong between the tackles and will fight for extra yards. He shows patience, waits for his blockers to set up in front of him and instantly hits the hole. He’s dangerous out of the backfield in the passing game flashing reliable hands, shifty moves and a second-gear that takes him the distance. He’s a determined player who will do whatever it takes for his team to win.

I’ve made no secret that Moreno is one of my favorite players in this draft, or frankly any draft, and there is a good reason. Too often we make a big deal about size/speed, especially at the HB position, but there are tons of HOF/Pro-bowl backs who don’t have exceptional size/speed combinations but make up for it in other ways. IMO, Moreno is one of those backs. He has the best balance I’ve seen, the best pass blocking I’ve seen, and the greatest intensity I’ve seen in the few years I’ve been scouting. He’s a good all-around back capable of running any play, and as a receiver he is excellent at generating 1st downs. Two players I am reminded of are Shaun Alexander (due to vision and inside running, but Moreno is a killer blocker and receiver where Alexander was poor at both) and Clinton Portis (the 2005+ version who is a great blocker and inside runner, not the 200lber from college), and I feel Moreno could be better than either because he truly is the best thing about each of those two backs. While I don’t recommend drafting a RB #4 overall due to money and the overall fungible nature of the RB position, Moreno had huge success behind a pretty bad Georgia OL and if given a decent OL I see pro-bowls and possibly Canton in Moreno’s future.

That was a joke. Not one thing he said in that interview (in regards to Denver) had anything to do with the preseason footage. Not one.

It was all the same conjecture others have said. No examples from the preseason, no in depth analysis of the game footage. Just another fluff piece.

For instance, the comment on McDaniels. McDaniels has shown nothing to this point in the preseason to warrant such praise. It's the same fluff comment others have made about McDaniels in the offseason. There are reasons to think McDaniels may (eventually) be a good head coach, but he's having a very rough preseason. There have been several clock management and situational coaching moments that McDaniels has failed on, and if he's gonna truly be a good head coach, he'll be critical of himself and not try to suck himself off the way KnoBrain does constantly.

BRONCOS OFFSEASON OF FAIL CONTINUES

No go for Knowshon in Week One?

Posted by Mike Florio on August 27, 2009 6:53 PM ET

When the Broncos face the Bengals to start the season, they might be without the services of the twelfth overall pick in the 2009 draft.

According to Jeff Legwold of the Denver Post, tailback Knowshon Moreno is not expected to be back to 100 percent by the time Week One rolls around.

Even if Moreno's sprained MCL has healed by September 13, Moreno's conditioning likely will keep him on the shelf.

With LaMont Jordan also missing time due to injury, the current starter is veteran Correll Buckhalter, who arrived via free agency after eight years in Philly.

Peyton Hillis also could shift over from fullback, and Darius Walker could get reps, too.

Oh well. At least they still have Jay Cutler Kyle Orton at quarterback.

Moreno Back In Action
After missing time with an injury, Knowshon Moreno was back on the practice field Tuesday at Dove Valley. Sporting an orange jersey designated for players recovering from injury, Moreno worked with the rest of the running backs in full drills at the onset of the session.

Among those backs was also LaMont Jordan, who returned from injury wearing his regular white No. 32 jersey. More to come at DenverBroncos.com following this afternoon’s practice.

Denver QB Situation Getting Dire
<H1 class=postTitle>Denver QB Situation Getting Dire</H1>http://www.blogcdn.com/nfl.fanhouse....n-200-9109.jpgWhile it was thought there would be a transition for the Broncos offense this season, no one could have imagined the nightmare the Broncos may be facing in Week 1 of the 2009 season. In January, the Broncos had a Pro Bowler at the helm. In July, they had Kyle Orton, with Chris Simms backing him up. Now, it's entirely possible they head into Cincinnati on Sept. 13 with Tom Brandstater as their starting quarterback..

With Simms already on the shelf, Orton suffered a finger injury Sunday night against his former team, the <A class=injectedLink href="http://nfl.fanhouse.com/team/chicago-bears/">Bears. The Denver Post is reporting that injury was an open dislocation to his right index finger.

Being right-handed, this poses a huge problem for Orton in terms of throwing the ball. As we all know, the index finger is of paramount importance when trying to throw a football. Still, Orton maintains he's going to be under center come Sept. 13.
"I will be ready to go," Orton said after the game Sunday while trying to hide his heavily bandaged, but not casted, right finger. "I am going to work as hard as I can. I don't know how long I'll be out, but mentally I will be ready to go and I think physically I will be too."
It's admirable that Orton is showing optimism and toughness, but with it being the index finger on his throwing hand, it's not going to be as easy as mind-over-matter. He's still going to have to be able to pass the football with some semblance of accuracy. If he's not, it's Brandstater time.

Brandstater, a rookie out of Fresno State, has completed 10 of 16 passes for 111 yards this preseason. He hasn't thrown a touchdown pass, but has thrown an interception and has been sacked four times. His quarterback rating is 57.0. Even worse news is that these numbers have mostly come against second or third string defenders.

Brandstater was a sixth-round pick for the Broncos after a senior year in which he completed 59.6 percent of his passes for 2.664 yards and 18 touchdowns, to go with 12 interceptions in 13 games.

If the football Gods really hate the Broncos and Brandstater gets hurt, Ingle Martin would be next in line. Martin has appeared in one career NFL game and never attempted a pass.

Also remember the Broncos are dealing with the Brandon Marshall fiasco in Training Camp as well.

Needless to say, Josh McDaniels could use a break. Maybe a miraculous healing job on Orton's index finger in the next two weeks is that break.
Life; it's all about appreciating this little things.LMAO

Moreno could play for Broncos Thursday night

Broncos rookie running back Knowshon Moreno, the club's top draft pick, might play in Thursday's final preseason game against the visiting Arizona Cardinals.

"He would be capable of playing, but I'm not exactly sure if that's the smartest decision," Broncos coach Josh McDaniels said after the team's walk-through practice today.

Moreno suffered a knee injury in Denver's preseason opener at San Francisco, but returned to practice on Tuesday.

"We're going to talk about that, taking all the information into account and making sure we do the smart thing by the player and make sure we're ready for next week," McDaniels said.

Brandon Marshall is talking to Rod Smith again! Rod will get his head on straight. :) :)

Quote:

Why The Broncos Won't Trade Brandon Marshall

I know a lot of Bronco fans clamoring for a Brandon Marshall trade. And reports out of New York suggest they might even have a willing partner in the New York Jets. Marshall for a 1st round pick.

Well I'm here to tell you – not happening. Not this year.

Here's why: If the Broncos hold onto him this season and no collective bargaining agreement is reached, Marshall would automatically become a restricted free agent, which allows the Broncos to control his rights.

If the owners and union do indeed reach a labor agreement, Marshall could qualify as an "unrestricted" free agent, allowing him to go as he pleases. If that's the case, the Broncos could simply slap a franchise tag on him. And the going rate for a franchise receiver (according to several agents) is a 1st and 3rd round pick, minimum.

So why would the Broncos bite at the Jets offer? Just a 1st-rounder? Why not just hold onto Marshall for the season and then collect a 1st AND a 3rd at the end of the year? It doesn't make sense to trade him now, unless of course some desperate team makes the Broncos an offer they can't refuse. Are the Jets that desperate? Doubtful.

Also, I'm told Marshall is starting to see the light. (I know, I know, we've heard this before). But this is different. Earlier this week, Marshall extended an olive branch to Rod Smith. He's seeking Rod's help again. He's actually listening this time. Rod and Brandon have been working out together this week, working on the body AND the mind. That's great news for B-Marsh. He needs guidance in his life. And nobody can fill that role better than Rod Smith.

Quote:

WR, BRANDON MARSHALL:

I have talked to multiple people who have talked to Broncos wide receiver Brandon Marshall in the midst of his team-imposed suspension for an outside perspective on Marshall’s mental status during his punishment.

These sources tell me uniformly that in their own conversations Marshall’s tone indicates a measure of sincerity and contrition, and that he’s appreciative of the people who’ve reached out to him. They say Marshall sounds like he plans to humbly reintegrate himself back into the team; however as one guy told me, “I am beyond the point of listening to what Brandon says, I only watch what he does now.” The weight of mistrust in many of their reports is very heavy.

Privately Marshall is drawing a lot of strong criticism, particularly from a number of his fellow starting teammates on both sides of the ball. Off the record, significant players have said things like: “he is killing his image;” “We don’t know what he is doing. Sometimes you can’t tell whether he’s coming or going;” “He can’t be trusted. I can’t put my name to vouch for how he’s acting right now;” “He’s acting like an idiot, this is not the way to get his money.”

More specifically one defensive starter said, “Brandon is (edit) up, because if you look at it this is his contract year and he could be playing in a system totally geared around him. He is such a stupid (edit).”

On the other side of the coin, I also haven’t heard one player doubt Marshall’s talent and the need for his skill set. Although the Broncos’ offense has been able to move the chains in his absence in the preseason, the unit’s struggles in the red zone are still evident and noted. There’s no doubt the Broncos can use Marshall’s size in the end zone, and his ability to stretch the field with his play-making skills. That’s why one offensive starter said, “we definitely still need him though if he gets it together.”

And that is the question.

Will Marshall get it together, especially when the issue of money is an ever-present irritant?

Interestingly, sources that have talked to Marshall directly say the Pro Bowl wide receiver is providing his own explanation for why he upstaged practice last week Wednesday.

According to these trusted sources, Marshall told them directly his videotaped frustration was partly connected to his disappointment with the terms of an extension the Broncos recently offered him. Sources were told by Marshall in his own words that this supposed deal averaged nine million dollars a year, but that his frustration stemmed from it being back-loaded as a result of his high risk behavior. Specifically, these sources say Marshall mentioned that this deal could have given him as little as three million in the first year, and that this detail was clearly not satisfactory to him and his statistical resume. In conclusion, these sources who’ve talked directly to Marshall told me to take this information with caution because it was only his version of events as they relay it.

Broncos general manager, Brian Xanders, did not respond immediately for questioning to this end.

Additionally, it is not Brandon Marshall’s agent’s normal practice to comment about specific negotiations details on the record.

However, Marshall’s camp is seemingly undeterred by all recent events and mishaps, and the camp remains steady in their strategy for Marshall’s future.

Denver was working on a contract extension for him way back in February or March. Then he got arrested....again... McDaniels wants this guy on his team. Why wouldn't an offensive minded coach want a top 5-10 WR?

Denver is going to sign Vonnie Holiday! This guy should have been signed a long time ago. Very good 3-4 DE. :)
Quote:

Holliday traveling to Denver

Former Dolphins defensive lineman Vonnie Holliday, unsigned since the Dolphins cut him this offseason, may not be unemployed very much longer.

Holliday is tonight traveling to Denver to visit the Broncos about signing and becoming part of that team's 53-man roster, according to an AFC West personnel source.

Holliday has visited the Broncos once already, that during the offseason. It is believed if the Broncos deem Holliday in good shape and health, they may offer him a contract. That team cut two defensive linemen -- Matthias Askew and Carlton Powell -- earlier Friday.

The Broncos, under first year head coach Josh McDaniels have already added former Dolphins cornerback Andre' Goodman and former Dolphins safety Renaldo Hill to their defense.

The Dolphins, meanwhile, might miss Holliday this season.

The Dolphins cut Holliday understanding it would be a loss of valuable locker room leadership. But the club expected not to lose much on the field, believing second-year end Phillip Merling ready to ascend to the starting job.

But Merling, who played behind Holliday in 2008, was unable to make the climb to the starting right defensive end job this preseason despite being handed the job at the opening of training camp. Randy Starks eventually won the job while Merling continues to play a reserve role.

Last season, Holliday played ahead of both Starks and Merling.

The Dolphins also are moving on this evening as they trim their roster to 53 players. They have released cornerbacks Joey Thomas and Will Billingsley.

It's official:
Broncos sign Vonnie Holliday
by Mike Klis on September 5, 2009

The Broncos completed a deal Saturday for veteran defensive end Vonnie Holliday.

The 6-foot-5, 288-pound Holliday was a solid defensive tackle/end for the Green Bay Packers from 1998-2002 before moving on to Kansas City and the Miami Dolphins. He will be expected to play both the 5-technique defensive end and nose tackle positions in the Broncos’ 3-4 defensive alignment.

“”He’s versatile so he can play wherever the team decides to play him,” said Holliday’s agent Cary Fabrikant. “”He’s an extremely talented football player who’s been a starter for long periods of time. He’s familar with the defense.”

Holliday, 33, had worked out for the Broncos during the free-agent period in March. He recently became a priority when newly acquired DE Le Kevin Smith suffering a knee injury.

Although Holliday did not go to training camp with any team this summer, Fabrikant says his client is in top physical condition through spinning, yoga, pilates.

Sounds like McDaniels suspending Marshall made Brandon wisen up a bit. It is good to hear that Marshall's attitude has been "great" since he came back from his suspension. :)

Quote:

No problems from Marshall

Broncos coach Josh McDaniels said receiver Brandon Marshall's attitude since his return from suspension has been "great." He said Marshall could absolutely make a significant contribution in Week 1 despite missing all of the preseason.

"Absolutely," McDaniels said.

The Broncos don't have too many choices if Jabar Gaffney (thumb) isn't ready to play in the regular-season opener. Marshall is clearly one of Denver's top three options at receiver, and McDaniels sounded prepared to make Marshall a big part of the team's plans in Week 1 if he shows he is ready.

"Look, he's a good football player," McDaniels said. "If he's ready to go and we go through this week of practice and feel that's the direction we want to play on Sunday, certainly we all know what he can do as a football player."

Best offseason evar!!! Brandon Marshall won't be going anywhere!ROFL

Quote:

Sources: Marshall, Broncos talking contract extension

Despite their stormy relationship, the Denver Broncos are now exploring the possibility of giving a contract extension to wide receiver Brandon Marshall, two league sources told ESPN's Adam Schefter on Wednesday.

The potential new deal would put Marshall's salary more in line with some of the game's other highly-paid receivers.

Due to the fact he has been unable to get a long-term deal, Marshall has been clinging to the hopes that Denver would deal him. But now, in a new approach, the deal Denver might make is not for Marshall, but rather with Marshall.

The fact that they are even talking is an encouraging sign, sources said, and there is some optimism that a deal could be struck that could keep Marshall in Denver long term.

Adam Schefter covers the NFL for ESPN Insider.

Denver was working on a long term contract with Marshall back in February... If he wouldn't gotten arrested again in the offseason he would already have a long term contract. Denver wants to keep BM. He is one of the 5 best WR's in the NFL.

1. Brandon Marshall will be a Bronco for a long time.

AFC:
Playoff Teams
1. Pittsburgh, 13-3
2. San Diego, 12-4
3. New England, 12-4
4. Indianapolis, 11-5
5. Baltimore, 12-4 (wild card)
6. Denver, 10-6 (wild card)

Prediction No. VIII: As we all know (or should know), a true sleeper pick can only be a team that: (A) flagrantly sucked last season; and (B) generated little buzz heading into this one. That rules out Houston (too much buzz), Green Bay (ditto), the Jets (9-7 last season) and Bucs (9-7 last season). You have to pick someone from this group: the Bills, Browns, Raiders, Broncos, Chiefs, Lions, Rams, Bengals and Niners. You need the "Nobody believed in us!" factor. You need a team that nailed its April draft and is blessed by a bad division and/or an easy schedule. You need an easy September for momentum. You need a franchise with fans who lost hope and will lose their collective crap if anything good happens. And you need to feel like you want to throw up even as you're anointing the team your sleeper.

My pick? The Broncos. Nobody believes in them because they lost Shanahan (24-24 since 2006) and Cutler (17-20 career record). Was that REALLY a disaster? They hired the architect of New England's record-setting 2007 offense (McDaniels) and traded for a QB with a 21-12 career record as a starter (Kyle Orton). (I know, I'm pushing it with the facts. But those ARE facts.) They crushed the draft: two first-rounders (including running back Knowshon Moreno, who could light it up right away) and five of the top 64 picks. They play in a division with two awful teams (Kansas City and Oakland). They easily could start 4-0 (at Cincy, home for Cleveland, at Oakland, home for Dallas). And the city of Denver has lost all hope. Also, I want to throw up and you are shaking your head right now. In other words, the Broncos fit the bill. Ten and six, I say.

I know I said that before. I don't think McDaniels can turn any QB into a Pro Bowl QB, but any QB that HE handpicks and works with can be turned into a Pro Bowl QB.

Tom Brady's best 4 years of his career ALL happened after Josh McDaniels started coaching him. He knows QB's like Mike Shanahan knows RB's.

Shannon Sharpe is the man!

Quote:

The absence of drama to date in Marshall's return is being viewed as a positive sign by Shannon Sharpe, formerly a star tight end for the Broncos and a member of consecutive Super Bowl-winning teams in the late 1990s.

Sharpe said he reached out to Marshall by phone while the receiver served his suspension in hopes some candid advice from him would help Marshall get his act together.

During a three-way call that also included former Broncos receiver Rod Smith, Sharpe said he told Marshall flat out that he was wrong and urged him to start "acting like a grown man, a professional football player and conduct himself accordingly."

"You just can't condone behavior like that. Even if he was my brother, I'd still tell him he was wrong," Sharpe said.

Sharpe said Marshall seemed to take his words to heart and he said he believes Marshall has learned from what has been a painful lesson.

"I think he's handling this in a very positive way," Sharpe said. "Moving forward, I don't think the Broncos are going to have any problems with Brandon Marshall."

There may even be a reason behind his refusal to answer questions from reporters this week.

"I told him I think he should let his play do his talking," Sharpe said.

That clearly had nothing to do with the typical progression of QB's during their career or extra level he went when he finally had receivers.

Shanahan knowing RB's really well is also a bit of a dubious claim.

Denver's defense is legit. A lot of the leftovers from the Shanahan era were perfect fits for the 3-4.

Well, they did beat the Bengals in Cincy... and Cincy just won at Green Bay. The Bengals may not be great, but everyone likes the Packers and they put up nice points at Green Bay - Denver held them to 7 at their house.

Cleveland... yeah, they suck. But, the Browns did put up more points against the Vikings and everybody likes the Vikings to go far.

So, 2-0 has it's ugly spots and it's bright spots... and I agree, let's see how things look in a month.

Denver defense destroys Browns

Last week, the performance of the Broncos defense was overshadowed by Brandon Stokley's catch on the Immaculate deflection.

After Denver's 27-6 drubbing of Cleveland Sunday in the Belichick Disciple Bowl, it's time to give defensive coordinator Mike Nolan and the boys their due.

Elvis Dumervil, converting to outside linebacker, racked up four sacks of Brady Quinn, including a forced fumble. Former Brown Andra Davis led the Broncos with ten tackles. (Quinn, meanwhile, has suffered through two dreadful starts to open the year.)

Denver's offense also looked improved against Cleveland, with 186 yards rushing, primarily from Knowshon Moreno and Correll Buckhalter. A gorgeous 45-yard run by Buckhalter capped the scoring in the fourth quarter.

A co-worker at NBC called Denver one of the worst 2-0 teams in the last ten years, but you have to admire their defensive effort. This is a rag-tag unit that is lacking in talent, but not creativity.

The AFC West is wide open; a little effort and good fortune could keep Denver in the mix for a while.
Even when we get a nice article about us there is always an insult thrown in. I love the bad press though, it really seems to fire our guys up ESPECIALLY Brian Dawkins :)
