yeah ususally people that like rock don't like the metal stuff |
After buying the Wolfmother cd and listening to it a couple of times I must say it gets old really fast. All the songs sound pretty much the same and lack depth. It was mildly entertaining at first to hear their retro sound but I would not rate them very highly.

Didn't go back and read the whole thread to see if the band Clutch had been mentioned,I don't recall them though.
Found out about them yesterday and dowloaded their entire new project From Beale Street To Oblivion,check out the harmonica player. <object width="425" height="350"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/41orqvymPA8"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/41orqvymPA8" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="350"></embed></object> |

The Aggrolites. Really great old school reggae sound. Saw them play a couple of months ago at a small show in front of 60 people. It was a great show.

Not "new", but stuff I've been listening to a lot lately:
Clap Your Hands and Say Yeah The Arcade Fire Band of Horses |
Got another one...
Sieges Even I just got their new release Paramount...wow. http://www.mariosmetalmania.com/pics/para.JPG Haven't heard other albums but I hear The Art of Navigating By The Stars is very good. EDIT: It is good, but pick up Paramount first. It is very, very good. http://www.myspace.com/siegeseven |
Ryan Shaw. He's being heralded as his generation's Otis Redding, Wilson Pickett, and/or Jackie Wilson.

Explosions in the Sky
I think a lot of the prog rock types will like them pretty well, even though it's more post than prog. Anyway, very cool crescendo-based instrumentals with soaring and intricate guitar work. |
Wow, check this one out. Possible prog metal release of the year!!

I did think EITS were decent until I saw them live. I filmed the show and made a DVD out of it, at the Replay Lounge in Lawrence, ks. That said, they weren't that great. And it magnified after I tried to talk to them. (Yes I had something meaningful to say.. I'm not a groupie just wanting to hang out) |
Quote:
All these drunken frat kids were yelling for "Gin and Juice", and I told them to shut the **** up and let the band play what they wanted to play. The banjo player then, evidently, thinks I'm the one yelling for Gin and Juice and goes into this huge rant about it while on stage and telling me to **** off and such. I try to approach him afterwards and explain the mixup, and he continues to be a gigantic prick. |
Found another one...
Indukti -S.U.S.A.R. http://www.progreviews.com/reviews/images/Ind-SUSAR.jpg http://www.myspace.com/indukti Especially for Riverside fans (same lead singer). |
Another...
Knight Area- Under A New Sign http://www.knightarea.com/Images/Kni...ws%20cover.jpg http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm...endID=96934992 Vocals are not my taste, but the music is top notch. |
...
RPWL- World Through My Eyes http://www.progreviews.com/reviews/images/RPWL-WTME.jpg You can listen to this album and pretend that Pink Floyd finally put out a new album...that is AMAZING! They are that good, and the lead singer sounds a lot like Gilmour. They are a little more well known, but if you haven't heard...here ya go. http://www.myspace.com/rpwl |

Some people really enjoy music-I think it's cool when some can relate to each other just by a choice of tunes. What's some of your other faves?
|
I know there are others who dug "Taproot".
WTF happened to those guys? Sign to another label, maybe? Their first two albums were gold. |
Some of my choice albums:
Silverchair - Neon Ballroom Tool - AEnima Weezer - Blue Opeth - Ghost Reveries NIN - The Downward Spiral The Matthew Good Band - The Audio of Being HUM - You'd Prefer An Astronaut off the top of my head |
Ever listen to the Angel's Son by Sevendust?
