He didn't graduate. Orphaned at 13, headed out on his own to California at 14, joined the army at 17 to fight in WWII.

From what I've been told he was. Was a Combat Engineer SGT in Burma during the war. Was stuck behind the line by himself for a couple weeks until he made it out. Also fought in the Korean war with the same outfit.
I wish I could have met him, he died six months after I was born.
