MIAdragon 10-30-2015 05:56 PM

Pft you little gas sipper, real men run diesels.

I don't know the exact definition, but like porn, I know what it is when I see it.

I've been in debates with my redneck friends about this very thing many times.

Some of them even argue that my Avalanche is not a real truck since the bed isn't "separate" from the cab. It's more like a suburban to some of them I suppose.

None of the above.

This is a truck. It is a piece of shit, but it's a truck.

#5 has the most clearly delineated load area.
Any of the other four could qualify if the rearward area is open for load carriage. If it's filled with seats and kids and books and games, etc. It's an automobile or car.

It might be more concise to refer to the first four configured for load carrying as a transport van.

The Missouri state highway patrol only classifies anything with an open bed a truck. No permanent top at all.

Buehler-I remember that. It is definitely a truck. No argument

Dred-An avalanche is more a truck than and SUV. With an open bed when needed.
The old Ford Apache was like the Avalanche. A suburban is not a truck.

Body on frame, no unibody.

SUVs are only trucks if they are truck framed. Soccer mom crossovers need not apply~

A lot of my truck driving buddies refer to their big rigs as tractors. :D

A truck has a bed. End of thread

Rain Man 10-30-2015 06:34 PM

If it doesn't have an open bed, it's not a truck. Pretty simple.

The only gray area is vehicles like this. Then you have to get more detailed about chassis, because I don't think these are trucks.

Eh, those are cars. They're built on car platforms.
