I tried that when I |
It probably has something to do with DirectTV's contract with the stations themselves.

Their customer service reps are basically there to give out discounts. It's their default setting, basically. They have a list of package deals available to them that they're ready to throw at you when you complain. I might throw in a "Well, Dish can offer me this and this and you can't, why not and what can you do to make up for it?" That's much more "adult" than "I'm leaving you guys for Dish because I'm so pissed at you right now!" They get that type of call a million times a day. You know you're FoS and they know your FoS, so why bother bullshitting? Just get straight to the point and ask them for the discount you want. |
It reminds me of when i use to manage a move theater. If something went wrong with the film or the audio or general experience was bad, we were trained to just give free passes. It's basically our default setting. Are you upset? Here, have some free passes.
The moment you walk up to the customer service window ready to complain, I already know what my response is. Whether your going to be nice about it or if you're going to cus up a storm and cause a scene, the response is going to be exactly the same. Here. Have some free passes. It's the same way with DirecTV. They're already trained and ready to hand out discounts the moment you tell them you're not satisfied. There is no need to threaten them, be rude, cus out them or tell them that you're 2 secs away from canceling. Their reps already know what they're going give you regardless of how you approach them. So just approach them like a normal adult. Sorry for the rant. I just find it irritating when people brag about how they "strong armed" the customer service rep to give them a discount. Truth is, you didn't strong arm shit. They were going to give you the discount regardless. |
locals are completely out now, have been all day
apparently it's a wide outage |

You are in the 1% area that doesn't allow local HD. I used to be until I switched to DishNetwork. I had been a DirecTV customer for over 10 years, called them up to ask if I could get Sunday ticket for free like the new customers get and they told me no. They offered $5/off a month and I told them to stuff it. Dish with the Hopper is soooooooo much better. Changing takes one phone call. It's simple. |

Directv just gave me Sunday Ticket Max and two movie channels for 6 months for $3 total, so I'm pretty pleased with them right now. Then they tried to charge me $120 for one month of Extra Innings so **** em still a little.

I told Direct that DISH has HD locals, and they played dumb. So far DISH have been awesome, and I'm looking forward to watching local College games in HD again. It's amazing how much you'll miss it. |

They're both just as bad as the cable companies anymore. |
