The first one was good from an action standpoint. once you start looking at the story though, it suffers drastically. if you were going into looking for transformers vs godzilla, it was pretty good though. i thought it was just a fun movie, and if you weren't looking for too deep of a film, it was extremely enjoyable.

Ron Pearlman's character lives. Watch after the first couple of minutes of credits.

I thought Pacific Rim was pretty fun, and as far as giant robot movies go, I liked it better than the Transformer shit.

The acting looks about on par.

Hunnam was about as wooden as it gets for a lead.

This. The personal story arcs were weak as hell but the universe, backdrop and action were great.

I really liked the first one. Kind of surprised at the dislike. Much better treatment of the whole mecha/robot thing than what we usually get in America.

But maybe people dislike the genre.

I'm fine with the genre. Pacific Rim just wasn't very good.

Can you point to something in the genre from the past 20 years that was better?

Better than bad does not equal good.

unlurking 06-29-2014 12:34 PM

Not the point. If he's fine with the genre, there must be something in the genre better. Right?

The original comment was that people must dislike the genre if they didn't love Pacific Rim. So I interpret him saying he's fine with the genre as a comment that he doesn't dislike it. But I'm sure he can speak for himself.

And I think the original comment stands. If you dislike the best best example of a genre, how can you not dislike the genre? That's like saying I don't have a problem with eggs. I just haven't had one I liked yet.
