Are you low man on the totem pole, seniority wise, on your shift? If not I would talk to them about that.

I would love to. Unfortunately in this area there isn't a big demand for pipe welders right now.

Move to Cali and I can get you a job instantly.

9/80 schedule. Starting out like $42 an hr

I spent my kids early lives on second. It really isn't that big a deal.

This.

When you are old and your kids are grown up you will never wish that you put in more time at work.

There is money to be made in other areas of the country if you're looking to relocate. I'm guessing the Dakotas would be one hell of a culture shock for the wife and kid though.

Obligatory "You're beyond fortunate to have a job" post.

KC native 07-09-2013 10:32 PM

Just start looking. You'll have mornings free to look on that shift. Get an offer and try to use that to go back to first shift. *assuming you want to stay.

Deberg_1990 07-09-2013 10:33 PM

Just quit and stay home. Obama will provide. Profit!

KC native 07-09-2013 10:35 PM

Do you weld? My pops is a pipefitter and only welds anymore. You may have to find a job doing some junkyard type welding in the interim.

J Diddy 07-09-2013 10:47 PM
