We're in really good shape.

Pioli only committed ~13 mil to four key free agents, plus what we already had in Routt.

We can frontload Bowe so he doesn't cost too much in future seasons. Our cap figure doesn't change too much with him anyway because our cap number currently reflects his franchise tag, which won't be too different from what he's getting.

It's about to get a lot better.

Next year, Albert will eat up a good number, but it will be offset by the team almost certainly cutting Glenn Dorsey. Jackson's contract will be up in '14, but we'll almost certainly ask him to restructure very soon. Those two DEs will free us up something like $20 million, allowing us to continue fishing for the big fish.

For those who have asked, after all of the signings, Bowe franchise tag, source said the Chiefs still have around $15 M of cap space.

...

Rookie pool counts for around 5 million.

10 million left we can spend in FA...most GMs like to keep 3 around during the year to sign players for injury replacements and we have a lot of spots left to fill in depth.

I would be a little surprised to see us make another signing before final cuts when we can pick up some decent vets on reasonable deals.

I was kinda thinking the same thing. I would be surprised to see us do much more in the way of free agency before the cuts begin.

Remember after this year we will have 14.7m come off the books when they cut Tyson Jackson no way in hell they pay him that. It's sad he is making 8m this year.

They won't cut him, but they'll certainly restructure.

I betcha we can get $10 million of that shaved off in 2013.

Combine that with letting Dorsey walk, and this team can continue to be in the hunt.

With that we could still have afforded what we've signed...

Carr went on a phone interview on NFLN shortly after he signed with Dallas and said he has always wanted to play for Dallas since he was a kid and turned down a lot of offers to come visit teams to sign with Dallas.

There is an awfully good chance it wasn't our choice to let Carr walk.

I'm not sure this is entirely fair. He's not exactly thin, but I don't think of him as being "fat". Especially by KC standards.

I'd look to sign Derek Landri and Melvin Bullitt.
That would cover a starting Nose Tackle and give us a Backup Safety.
You can get that done with what's left.

CaliforniaChief 03-18-2012 04:10 PM

I agree with those who say its time to lock up Albert. He seems really excited about the team, especially with the addition of Winston.

Do that next year.

Spend the rest of the money on a Nose Tackle/Safety.

You can probably sign Belcher cheap halfway through the season if he looks good enough for it. Siler you can do another one-year deal.

Hillis can walk -- someone will over pay for him. Dorsey can walk too, he's too expensive and can be replaced.

Albert's the big fish, and will probably need to be franchised.

Lilja.... well. He may not even be on the team by this time next year.
