Count me in as someone who loved blockbuster. But I grew up in a smaller town. I loved running into people I knew, judging them on their movie choices, and the thrill of not always getting the movie you wanted. Movies and books have become more convenient but I get kind of bummed that so many social experiences are being stripped away from us. Same reason I was sad to see toys r us go away.

My town was small enough that it didn’t have a blockbuster.

Anyone here sad to see their demise? Anyone remember "late fees" returning The Untouchables?

Aw man. I was a Manager Trainee there (on N. Oak in Gladstone) after college. Pretty fun. So many regular/daily customers.

I used to take girlfriends to those rental stores and occasionally squeeze their butts as we walked up and down the isles deciding what movie to rent.

I once took a Mormon girl to the video store and she couldn’t watch anything rated R (we were 19). Seems anything exciting to watch was rated R and everything pg-13 and under sucked. “Nope can’t watch that, oh can’t see that either, fine just pick something already”

During law school, the Blockbuster was right next to Racanellis with the best pizza around, and both were a very pleasant walk down The Loop from my front door.

Two slices of Italian Beef or Veggie Special and two new releases was a great way to unwind on a quiet Saturday night.

Any biz that lives off late fees or service charges deserves to die

Favorite Blockbuster memory: Guy loses his shit at Blockbuster when they tell him that his lost VHS tape is going to cost about $80. The guy went on an epic rant and started picking up tapes and throwing them across the store. One of the two teenage kids behind the counter freaked out, ran out of the store and never looked back.

Loved Blockbuster. I still use redbox because, as long as you're not lazy, it's 1/3 of the price of an on-demand rental.

It's really easy to avoid late fees.

Didn't they also have a shot at partnering up with Red Box as well?

Wow you guys crying over late fees...... like they dont tell you the exact date every time at checkout when it's due back. I bet your the same customers that would complain when a movie wasn't in stock and is more then likely past due to you lazy folks bringing it back.

They never rented porn or NC17 movies.

We had a place here that had their porn rentals in a large binder book, the cases were all flattened and in plasic protectors and one would walk in and ask for,"The Book"

At least that's what I heard. :D
