Mizzou has a darn good tradition the mid 80's and 90s killed alot of it off.

I'm not emphasizing tradition because NU is down. The point is Mizzou isn't as great as their fans think. Mizzou fans made Saturday's game more dramatic than it was going to be. Right now, Nebraska is where Mizzou usually has been.

Oklahoma was down for a long time, and it wasn't their tradition that brought them back. It was Bob Stoops. If Nebraska ever makes a comeback, it won't be because of their tradition. It will be because they hire a great coach who turns around a terrible program.

If Bob Stoops had gone to Iowa State, Iowa State would be a powerhouse. If Oklahoma had hired Bill Callahan, they would be where Nebraska is now. Nebraska's tradition may get a coach to answer the phone when the AD calls looking for a new coach, but that window is closing as well. If Pellini doesn't work out, all bets are off. UNL is dangerously close to becoming a resume stain.

I don't recall OU being "down" for any extended period. They weren't good from '96 to '98 when they had John Blake and Howard Schnellenberger. OU is the only school with 4 coaches with more than 100 wins. Bud Wilkinson, Barry Switzer, Stoops and some dude from the '20's.

They were down by OU standards in the 90's.

1994: 6-6
1995: 5-5-1
1996: 3-8
1997: 4-8
1998: 5-6

That's not that long ago, and you forgot how far down they really were. I'm guessing that you were old enough to have followed college football at the time, too. The same thing is happening to Nebraska in reverse. It was that same period of time when Nebraska was a factor in a national sense. Now kids are supposed to remember that Nebraska was good 10+ years ago...when they were 7 years old?

Exactly.

Find me a post where a Mizzou fans is crowing about their "tradition."

To be fair, Mizzou does seem to be beginning a tradition of anually pushing in Nebraska's shit.

You couldn't let it go.

I think Pelini will need four years to right the ship. I think it will be at least year three before he hands out blackshirts. I'm glad I won't be home on Saturday to watch them play Texas Tech.

Sweet, one way or another we'll get to see this thread bumped for another four years.
