Yes, he was the best available choice since we passed on RW for Stephenson. With Smith, we opened up a 4 year window of being SB contenders (2 of which has passed us).

Only way the Chiefs are yearly contenders 2 years from now is if Peters is still with the team (my guess is they pick up the 2019 option and tag him in 2020 unless he puts up a huge fight), DJ's replacement is excellent, Berry plays to his value, and the DL actually comes together. That's asking a lot of things to pan out. But fortunately, a lot of things are going right thru the draft on the offensive side of things so I think Dorsey MIGHT piece this along nicely without any major road bumps. But that's a stretch, I'm especially not confident in our future at the safety position. Mahomes is a hopeful starter thru 2030, my guess is that after the Smith era this team will go thru a period of slump in which SD will take over the division if they find the right QB cause they are doing awesome things on both sides of the ball.

Until 30 years of history is broken no one will believe 30 years of history will be broken...

well that's fine.. and also underscores my point. It was reasonable for everyone to not expect KC to trade up for a QB in any draft.. much less this one.

So deriding TU or anyone for predicting it not happen seems... odd.

It is.

KC has a 1-2 year push for a SB so trading up that far to take a QB, this year no less, wouldn't seem to be the logical route...

The way I see it, it's every 3 years that you find a talent with a high ceiling like RW meanwhile there are guys who have a pretty high ceiling but won't reach Rodgers/Brady level: Luck, Winston, Newton.

Management must have felt confident they found that once every third year guy. And they recognized he would be in the perfect position to learn from a 12 year veteran. With the extra draft picks, it makes the gamble seem less risky.

SD will be awesome with their next unknown QB but Mahomes will cause KC to slump.

Not a Chiefs fan

I like the move.

I don't like it - I LOVE THE MOVE.

This one draft pick changes the mindset of the Chiefs fanbase from norm to "Wow! Good or bad $#it is different now! We're swinging for the fences!"

And I'm not a 2PM fan.

I think, at best, he has a 25% chance of being a respectable NFL QB.

I don't care.

To me it's not about the player - it's about the shift in mindset that will eventually allow us to get the player we need...

TigeRRUppeRRcut 05-18-2017 11:36 AM

Yup. This franchise needed it. Even at the risk that morons will be booing smith for every mistake for the next 1-2 years.

I think he has a better chance than that to be respectable, probably 40-60, 50-50, but I know what your saying. I realize his chance to be great/elite is very, very slim as it is with every draft pick.

Which is why it is damn foolish for people on this board to be touting multiple SB's with PMII...never count your chickens before they hatch.
