Lee's Summit was announced yesterday.

Here's the current map https://maps.google.com/maps/ms?msid...478&dg=feature

Overland Park looks like a gaping hole and of course that's where I live.

must be something going on with the negotiations between google and OP.

Pretty sure they don't want to 'work around' Overland Park

cookster50 06-21-2013 12:24 PM

Its already done and over with, as stated previously in this thread or the other one, it won't be announced for a while.

I'm really impressed they're hitting all of the suburbs. When this first started, I thought it might be a small scale experiment. I wish they'd up the roll out rate a bit though. I still haven't met anyone that actually has it.

I'm due for install starting next month. Can't wait.

I'll share details as I get them.

ZootedGranny 06-21-2013 03:57 PM

I live in the corner of Kansas City formed by the city limits of Raytown and Independence, and for the past month I've seen Utilimap going neighborhood by neighborhood inspecting utility poles, and I've also seen fiber being pulled down several streets.

With even the earliest signups still waiting on installations I don't expect service any time soon, but Google isn't wasting any time setting up local infrastructure.

yea, i think i remember you posting the same thing before.

I have yet to see a valid reason why they would delay the announcement if the negotiations are 'already done' as you say.

Google Fiber headed to Mission
June 26

Google Fiber on Wednesday announced it had struck a deal with a 10th area city and will offer the high-speed Internet service to residents of Mission.

The company’s blog said it was unable to say when the service would be available but that, just as the city was a stop for pioneers in the 19th century, “Mission will become a hub for another expansion _ the growth of the Silicon Prairie.”

There's a million reasons, internally. This is from a city government perspective, not on Google's end. Even though the deal is agreed upon, does not make it finalized, to be announced. They still likely have a few months of contract paper work to go over, but I can tell you with absolute certainty a Google representative attended the "Council of Mayors" meeting earlier this year. If you know what the "Council of Mayors" meeting is, You'll understand.

Olathe was the first city announced after KCK if I'm not mistaken.
