I know this isn't popular, but other than playing for the 49ers, Smiths situation has nothing in common with Grbac. It's much more like what happened to Trent Green, than Grbac, or Bono.

Alex Smith is as good as Trent Green, but I don't recall Trent Green taking anyone to a SuperBowl. I think we've dealt with so many garbage QBs that people over value Trent Green. He had a all-World o-line, Hall of Fame TE, and a great RB. He was really an avaerage QB.

Exactly. Green was a starter who was injured, and the backup came in and took the team to the SB. Same situation with Alex Smith. Grbac was never a starter in SF.
