AP
Every once in a while, Colts owner Jim Irsay launches the Twitter equivalent of an Easter egg hunt. Currently, Colts fans are making guesses like crazy, and wondering if they’re getting warm.

On Saturday night, Irsay said that his team, which has been very active so far in free agency, is “working on a deal, one we’ve been working on for five days,” and that “we’re very, very close to making it work.”

Later, Irsay narrowed the range of potential guesses to one position: “Wide receiver!!“

But there aren’t many free-agent receivers with names justifying the use of two exclamation points. Darrius Heyward-Bey was cut on Tuesday, and Randy Moss still has some caché, baby.

That leaves restricted free agents, where Giants receiver Victor Cruz and Steelers receiver Emmanuel Sanders are the top targets. But with Irsay saying that the Colts have been working on the deal for five days and given that Cruz’s agent change delayed prevent CAA from talking contract during the five-day waiting period, it’s probably not Cruz.

Unless, of course, the Colts were spending the first part of the past five days coming up with an offer-sheet strategy with a 2013 cap number that would prevent the Giants from matching.

Either way, we’ll be keeping an eye on Irsay’s page for further updates.

Emmanuel Sanders

Would be hilarious if it was that slapdick ROFL

Dante84 03-17-2013 09:39 AM

Whats the word on Osi? Any rumors in our favor?

Direckshun 03-17-2013 09:53 AM

The biggest buzzing around Umenyiora is that the Giants want to bring him back, and that the Falcons are alledgedly interested. That's all I've seen.

Osi himself has said he'll play pretty much anywhere.

Osi has said, however, that he wants a starting gig. He would likely not get one in Kansas City.

Direckshun 03-17-2013 10:12 AM

Also, Osi tweeted this when a Chiefs fan asked him if he wanted to be a Chief:

Osi Umenyiora
@OsiUmenyiora

@TypeOjunkie @tambahali91 they got Tamba and Houston. They don't need anymore edge rushers!

Direckshun 03-17-2013 10:13 AM

Also, Tamba is really, really high on Alex Smith.

You really think the front office and Andy Reid is listening to who Tamba Hali wants on the team?

If he makes a case and it's a reasonable $ ya possibly. Do u think flowers had no input or nothing to do with Sean smith? They just happen to work out together and he was kc top target or one of em

Flowers' buddy system worked pretty well with Carr.

No, Flowers didn't have any input to my knowledge.

The only way a player would have an input into another player is if they played together in the past.

I just don't see how he's a fit.

Were gona play a hybrid D, I think Osi can play hand in the dirt in a 43 and in 34 with Hali on his outside.

Why not invest in the position in the draft instead of paying a decent yearly rate to a guy that's had a questionable injury history and doesn't really enjoy being the 3rd fiddle on defense?

Actually after this year Halis number drops and is pretty favorable. I would keep the # as is.

You can sign Albert long term which will free up cap space.

Doug Baldwin - WR - Seahawks

Owner Jim Irsay recently tweeted that the Colts are pursuing a wide receiver, and the Indianapolis Star speculates it may be Doug Baldwin.
The Indy Star is just connecting dots, but they do connect. Baldwin was pushed down Seattle's depth chart following Percy Harvin's acquisition, and Baldwin played with Colts quarterback Andrew Luck and under new OC Pep Hamilton at Stanford. We suspect Seattle could net a fifth- or sixth-round pick for Baldwin.

Avery
Alexander
Baldwin
Copper

Everyone thinks Miami had a good offseason.

They overpaid for what is at best a average WR.

They signed a MLB 7 mil a year who only played 7 games.

If Long comes back they will overpay a LT who is more injury prone than Albert.

Meanwhile at least Schefter sees the Chiefs as having the best offseason.

Its all good. I wonder if the ILB spot will be addressed through FA or draft.

Remember Dexter Heyman who was a undrafted FA last year. I truly think he can fill the ILB spot. He is great in coverage and can stop the run just not as physical in the run. He would come for the league minimum.

A lush and a slush, close enough for those slipping into dementia.

CaliforniaChief 03-17-2013 06:32 PM

I imagine that once Long signs, we'll have a better idea of what the market will be for Albert...and hopefully we can make our move then.

Getting Albert long-term + restructuring Berry + cutting Studebaker would give us plenty of room.

Other than Tyson Jackson (which really wasn't a restructure as much as a cut), we really haven't had to do any of the creative financing that most teams do on a regular basis.

Pasta Little Brioni 03-17-2013 06:32 PM

Sign an ILB and call it a day. They'll go pass rusher in the 1st. Hopefully after trading down.

I could live with him after a move down. They really need an interior lineman that can penetrate and reek havoc. Poe can be that kind of guy too and if that happens this D will be sick. I really think the Eagles could be ripe for a partner.

Mother****erJones 03-17-2013 06:43 PM

I'd rather have Jordan. Big physical freak at 6'6"

Pasta Little Brioni 03-17-2013 06:46 PM

I think Ziggy is a better fit watching him line up at OLB, DE and even the middle in a 3 line set. He can provide the interior pass rush the team needs along with the versatility to line up outside if needed.

We already have 2 pro bowl OLB.

Ansah is a DE/OLB. Same with Jordan.

Thing is who is a better pass rusher. Ansah and he has more potential.

Since were gonna be playing a 3-4/4-3 hybrid.

Our d line would be LDE-Ansah, DT-Devito, DT-Poe, RDE- Jackson.

Sorter 03-17-2013 06:50 PM

If we aren't allowed to take Geno and can't trade down, I'm thinking Richardson, Ziggy, Jordan, or Mingo.
