Millions of young adults were conceived to Prince tracks.

But back on track – the 1983 show (August 3rd, to be more exact) was the first public live performance of Prince & The Revolution. The concert was a benefit for the Minnesota Dance Theater Company. It was also the first time the band would perform several of what would become their signature tracks, most importantly Purple Rain.

God that seems like a lifetime ago

It WAS a lifetime ago, in many ways we're still here in SPITE of just how long ago

Sure doesnt seem like it, though... these old songs dredge up the same emotions as if they were yesterday

That's the thing about his music for many (most?) of us --- they were iconic songs that provide a very distinct memory of a time in our lives. Purple Rain absolutely takes me back to a middle school dance. They were a prominent backdrop to our formative years. His hits in the 80's and 90's came before Spotify, YouTube, and all the other online music options. Radio, cassette and CD's were it, and his songs were always on the radio.

I can't ****ing believe this. The only instrument Prince wasn't a complete master at was the drums. Everything else, he was a ****ing PHD.

The music he wrote with Wendy and Lisa was some of the most original and prolific pop-rock that has ever been recorded.

When he moved away from the group mentality and became more of a solo artist, I thought his music was a little too self-indulgent, but he was still a master at crafting songs and he definitely wrote some gems along the way.

This is just no good. RIP.

I like some of Princes songs, I think, but it seems like hes a raging asshole

Dayze 04-22-2016 05:57 AM

he was an hell of a guitarist too. I never knew it really, until I saw some performance of his a few years ago where he shredded on guitar. I never really listened to him so I had no idea.
