Been a long time since we had a shiny new toy like that Tomas kid. Bo Jackson maybe?

Huge difference.

Cabrera is pretty much out of the question because they prefer Tomas to Cabrera and it's pretty much the same value around 15 mil a year. Cabrera 12-13 mil

He can be a 30+ home run guy but he strikes out a lot

I don't think anyone said we were tapped out, now that Butler, Hoch, and Shields are out, we have money to spend. Arbitration alone wont take us to ~$100MM

SAUTO 11-12-2014 07:39 PM

Butler has an offer from Oakland?

Get us to right around Milwaukee's projected payroll, or just below it and I'll feel like there's a full bore attack to eclipse last season's success.

Obviously, it's not a rigid requirement because they could easily make a push for x or y guy who signs elsewhere and the remainder of available guys still unsigned would just be pissing cash away.

Going hard for Thomas is exciting, and it might be that the Royals are going against their nature and sign a guy that has a lot of buzz and teams lining up. Part of me is wary that he's going to be steered to a big market for the endorsement money. The other part of me wonders if already dealing with his agent for Santana could be a bit beneficial simply because they will be in dialogue and working numbers already so the back and forth communication is already ongoing.

Hot off the presses, I just updated my Royals Options and projected status workbook. This lets you easily see who becomes a free agent, when, and what holes we may need to fill.

I also checked MLBTradeRumors math, and came up with pretty much the same numbers when using their arbitration estimate. If you include the 500K guys who we will have to pay to fill out the 25-man next year, we currently have about $83MM committed, so maybe we have $20MM left to spend.

Yeah, that extra $10 million in spending room makes a big difference. We spent most of the season assuming the Royals would hold steady with the 2014 salary, if we were lucky. Which didn't leave much cash to fill the SP and RF/DH spots.

Tigers trade their best prospect for a platoon cf that can't hit. Dumbasses. @MLBRosterMoves: The @BlueJays acquire 2B Devon Travis from @tigers for OF Anthony Gose.

He was their #1 prospect and #84 best in all of baseball
