Watching Darnold's pro day workout & Mayock breaks out a Mahomes story about at his pro day he threw it 80-85 yards across his body. He said he was surrounded by 7-8 scout's with 30+ years experience & none had seen anything like it.

The Franchise 03-24-2018 12:18 PM

Draft Analyst's Tony Pauline passes along that Texas Tech QB Nic Shimonek "show[ed] arm strength and decent accuracy" during Friday's pro day.
"The feeling leaving the workout was that Shimonek has a real chance to develop into a backup at the next level," Pauline writes. He notes that the 6-foot-3, 220-pounder really let loose his arm at the end of the workout, uncorking a pair of 75-yard passes. Shimonek profiles as a potential late-round project or undrafted free agent for next month.

There’s Pats new backup.

He is used to being Pat's backup and they get along very well with each other. But Shim has some of the same issues you guys disliked about Alex.

Shim is deathly afraid of throwing picks to the point he hangs onto the ball in critical situations instead of trying to make a play. Or chicken out and throw it way past the back of the end zone on 4th and goal with the game on the line...

Not that anyone cares in particular, but my QB rankings as of right now:

1. Rosen
2. Darnold

3. Mayfield

4. Jackson
5. Allen

I think Jackson could be decent if the right coach gets ahold of him but it’s going to take a perfect situation. I don’t have high expectations for Allen at all wherever he goes.

RunKC 03-31-2018 08:50 AM

1. Darnold
2. Rosen
3. Allen
4. Mayfield
5. Jackson

I feel like even with Allen’s flaws, his ceiling is significantly higher than Mayfield and his attitude and ability to take coaching makes him better.

Chargem 03-31-2018 09:11 AM

I just listened to the latest PFF podcast which can be found here https://www.profootballfocus.com/podcasts

There's a big section towards the beginning about predictors of NFL performance for this crop of QBs and it was a pretty interesting listen.

Yeah truthfully I have no clue where to peg the bottom three. I think they all could be good QBs but I think fit is going to be very important to that.

The only thing I’m near 100% sure on at this time is that Rosen is my QB1.

Chief Northman 03-31-2018 11:00 AM

Just me, but I think Rosen will bust.

There is something about his attitude/demeanour that totally annoys me. I’m not sure he cares all that much about football. He is entitled and his ego will get challenged in an NFL locker room. He throws a great ball, is polished, but has a thin frame that might not hold up well to the physical rigor.

I think Darnold and Mayfield will have the longest shelf life out of this crop.

Rosen had 2 concussions last season and people wonder if he could just end up giving up the NFL in a few years simply bc he doesn’t need it. I think he’s a spoiled rotten millennial douche like Baker Mayfield. The kid had a ****ing hot tub in his dorm room as a Freshman.

Speaking of being a douche, Baker Mayfield already has a documentary of his draft experience that he’s promoting.

I’m so glad Pat isn’t like that. He seems way more focused and down to business.

If you protect him I think Rosen will be great. I just don't think he's tough enough, athletic enough (he's not a total statue though), or thick enough to play behind a subpar OL.

I'm not THAT concerned with his attitude. There's been rumblings in Green Bay that Rodgers' teammates don't really like him, but they still win when he's in there.

pugsnotdrugs19 03-31-2018 12:01 PM

There was a video from the other day with Rosen working with Rodgers that kinda changed my tune on him. He seemed genuinely interested in learning. Wasn’t afraid to ask questions, no matter how simple or complex they were.

I think he’s probably pretty cocky and maybe even a dick, but I think it’ll translate fine if he’s willing to work hard. If he isn’t interested in burying himself in his playbook and game tape, he will bust. But if he does put in the time, I think he’ll be a very good to great QB.

Sweet Daddy Hate 03-31-2018 12:23 PM

Mayfield is going to torch out SO hard, you could use his career to light aircraft carrier runways.

I think Rosen's "attitude" is being blown way out of proportion. Honestly, it's pretty funny that he bought an Intex $300 inflatable hot tub and put it in his dorm room. I guarantee you every other kid in his dorm said "why didn't I think of that."

Rosen's biggest red flag is his injury history.

O.city 04-03-2018 08:51 AM

Yeah, I like Rosen and Mayfield.

I kind of want my QB to be a badass and competitive.

No chance they do not. That has been the gameplan since they gave us the slot to take Mahomes.

KChiefs1 04-10-2018 10:07 AM

Giants have come out & said they’d take Darnold at #2 if he’s there but otherwise it is probably Chubb or Barkley.

Makes me wonder if Rosen will be the QB that falls down draft this year.

If the Browns draft this kid #1.....Dorsey hasn't learned shit. They'd be dumb to not take Darnold.

Yup. I wouldn't draft Josh Allen in round 7, much less top 7. But his comp for me isn't Jamarcus Russell, it's Christian Hackenberg.

Josh Allen:
27 g 365 comp 649 att 56.2% 5066 yds 7.8 avg 44 td 21 int

Christian Hackenberg:
38 g 693 comp 1235 att 56.1% 8457 6.8 avg 48 td 31 int

Similar completion %. Similar size. Similar issues against lesser competition. Slightly stronger arm but not mind-blowing because Hack still had legitimate NFL caliber arm strength (62 v. 56 mph during combine).

Baker Mayfield Doesn’t Have Time for Your No. 6 Pick.

Teammates and friends talk about the legend of Baker Mayfield as though he were forged from some alien metal and dropped to earth—a shining example for the little guy. To almost everyone who met him at Oklahoma, he’s Baker Mayfield, walk-on turned Heisman Trophy winner, a six-foot powder keg who slings it like Favre, trash-talks like Shaq, dances like Bruno . . . and might actually hail from Mars.

But they didn’t know him way back when—not back in Gina and James Mayfield’s kitchen in the suburbs of Austin, where 17-year-old Baker got up the nerve to tell his father that for college he intended to choose between Florida Atlantic and Washington State, the two so-so FBS football programs he’d gotten offers from. Those were the two schools that really liked him, and Mayfield longed to be desired, to have a chance to play.

“I didn’t get the offers I wanted,” he recalls, “and in my head I’m thinking: I deserve to not have to walk on.”

James, though, wasn’t having it; he told Baker he could do better. “You’ve always believed in yourself,” James said, “so why don’t you walk on somewhere you want to go?” The conversation transformed into a shouting match; the teenager stormed out of the house and paced through the neighborhood. Two hours later he came back home and decided he’d indeed try to walk on, at Texas Tech.
