Smith just turned 30.

Rivers is 2.5 yrs older.

I don't hate Rivers like a lot do around here, but while he's a very good QB, he's not a 'legit QB'. They win consistently.

Recently, Rivers has found ways to lose.

He's a legitimate starting QB.

He's won division titles, playoff games, and other than one horrible season has very good career numbers.

I didn't say he was elite - I said he's a legit starter. A solid player...

so now we are back to salary cap problems again? Just the other day people said we had enough salary cap to trade for Andre Johnson after cutting Flowers. The convenient way our salary cap problems jump around to fit whatever argument is currently going on is beyond stupid

If they want to sign Alex Smith and Justin Houston to long term deals they can. The only reason Houston doesn't get a new deal is if the Chiefs or Houston don't want to sign a new deal.

Alex Smith has nothing to do with it.
