as for bosses and resists, use rings to supplement your protection.
sometimes you will find white rings with decent base resist(above the little blue line) you can use the Orb of Alchemy to upgrade it from white to yellow but it still keeps the inherent/base number. So your white ring with 25% lightning resist will turn in to an yellow ring with 25% lightning resist + 3 or 4 other magical benefits. Orb of Alchemy is your best friend ... 1. change number of sockets you want (Jeweller's Orb) 2. change links to make sure they are all attached(orb of fusing) 3. change color of sockets to fit your skills (Chromatic Orb) if those work ... 4. boom, Orb of Alchemy to convert the plain white item to rare yellow but keep all the links/sockets life blood of building a character imo fyi - much easier to just find the item with number of sockets than use jeweller's orb ... at least for higher number sockets. I listed them in the order you should probably do them in ... it just works better. Sockets > Links > Color > upgrade item. btw if you find an item with proper sockets etc you can use Orb of Scouring to remove unwanted properties. Sockets/Links are usually more valuable. |

Right now I'm working my way up, going for more life and amplify. Im just going for a ground slam slammer, so amplify will increase radius and add damage to it. Now I just need at least a 5 linked piece. |
Linked sockets? I iz confused.

various things to note: number of sockets color of sockets (have to match skill gem color) also tiny little connections between sockets what those connections(links) do is allow a support gem in one socket to effect a gem in another linked socket. ex: Green skill gem Poison Arrow in one socket linked to Multiple Projectile support gem in another socket. result: when you shoot a 3 Poison Arrows come out instead of 1 Multiple support gems can effect a single skill gem IF they are all connected with links. ex: Poison Arrow + Multiple Project + Increase AOE + Increased Duration Result: 3 Poison arrow with 30% increase cloud that last 30% longer You can really make skills more effective by using support gems. |
ya, linked sockets are what you really want later on.
I use Ground Slam, my build is pretty much just a ground slammer. Right now I have a 4 link chest piece, 3 red and 1 green sockets. so I put Ground slam in there than add attack speed (green support gem) and added fire damage and life on hit (red support gems). And that means only when I use ground slam, it has increased attack speed (30% currently) + 34% physical damage added as fire + 34 life on hit. So I just made Ground Slam super awesome! This game SHITS on D3 |

just before the last wipe I crafted a set of holy chainmail for my templar. it had 5 connected sockets. I put in Ice Spear + spell totem + greater multiple projectiles + cold to fire conversion + elemental proliferation
the result was I could raise a totem that would shoot 5 ice spears every half second. the ice spears would chill/freeze enemies and set them on fire for a nice DoT. any enemies that got close to the frozen & burning foes would get chilled and burned also. the mana cost was insane but the totems did all the work. it actually saves mana when you attach spell totem support gem because the totem will just keep on casting the spells repeatedly. |
yea, i made an ice templar to i was sporting dual wands that gave me about 200-300% spell/elemental damage increase. I had 2 totem skill and had ice skills of my own as well.
brutal ... i could fling 12+ ice bolts at a time I could destroy a room with ice in seconds |
