Plenty of small and large mouth Bass, Walleye, Trout, Northern Pike and Musky. I have yet to land a Musky bu I'm not sure I'm prepared for one of those monsters.

8lbs would be a nice lunker.

Feeding? I have bass that were stocked on June 22 3years ago at 4-5 inches that are running a solid 17-18 in with a couple 22 inch plus. Granted thats exceptional but they had massive amounts of forage with Bluegills that had not been fed on for probably two prior years. Pond is 3.5 acres, max depth 26 feet

Im seeing a real benefit in the bluegills from feeding. Cant say bass pay any attention to the feed but the will bust hell out of a BG when ty are on the feed plus its a rush to see the catfish.

My son and I caught about 20 Rainbows this last weekend. It was great. Fought like Hell.

I've only been once in my life, this past opening weekend. Want to get back out in the water, was really fun fishing.

With what, fly rod, ultra light?
Rainbows are scrappy little fish, fun to catch on light gear.

Just a spinning reel and whatever that rod is called. Crazy stick?

Just a bobber, weight, hook and bait.

Hey Donger, I have heard you like to fish for brown snub nose sewer trout. Could you verify the validity of this for me?

sounds just like my situation. I feed the fish 5-6 times a week, and the 'gills and cats come up for it. The bass sit below and wait to pick of one of the unsuspecting 'gills. Pretty cool to watch. I throw 10lbs of minnows in about every other year also, but the 'gills are getting huge and there are several 7ish lb bass in there now. I'll post a pic of the one my son caught last summer.

I built a lot of structure. I'd been wanting to do this for a long time and had looked at a lot of stuff on the internet.

Here are some samples of some of the items I made, in addition to rock piles, ledges, drop offs and a large dirt ridge in the water....and a garden of cement lawn deer and large tile piles around my island and other strategic locations.....I have enough time invested in them I hope it pays off.

It was funny listening to some of the old timers talk about it when they didn't know I was in a store or who had done it.

I have a smaller pond I drained that would run directly into this one with a pipe and I plan to fix it and put a 6" pipe running into the pond I can with a valve...and stock the small pond with minnows and crawfish and twice per year open the gate for a while to flood food.

Also, I'm tinkering with an natural fish feeder idea.
I want to hang a battery powered bug zapper over the water with a shepherd's hook....put a solar panel on a battery with a timer....even if it runs a couple of hours/night, it'll work.

Great resource...

Read up on crayfish, you may find thats a bad idea. Can reallymess up habitat, many are invasive/non native, and can brutalize spawn.

Pretty awesome thinking a fish could be caught on rod/reel that was born around the same time as Abraham Lincoln.

Centuries-old rockfish believed to have been caught off Alaska’s coast
Published July 02, 2013

An insurance adjustor from Seattle caught a rockfish outside Juneau, Alaska, last week that weighed 39.08 pounds and believed to be around 200 years old, The Sitka Sentinel reported.

Henry Liebman, the adjustor, told the paper that he was fishing in 900 feet of water at the time and was about 10 miles off the coast of Sitka. Rockfish, the paper said. These fish have been known to live as far down as 4,000 feet.

“I knew it was abnormally big (but I) didn’t know it was a record until on the way back we looked in the Alaska guide book that was on the boat,” Liebman told the paper.

The fish was certified and a sample was sent to a lab in Juneau where the fish’s age will be officially determined. Liebman, for his part, plans having the fish mounted. If this fish was indeed born 200 year ago, it would have been born around the same time the U.S. entered the War of 1812, James Madison was president and the German composer Richard Wagner was born.

Troy Tidingco, the Sitka area manager from the state Department of Fish and Game, told the paper that the previous record fish was 205 years old and that fish was "quite a bit smaller" than the one Liebman caught, the paper reported.

Rockfish have a high release mortality because they are caught in such deep waters. They often suffer from an inflated swim bladder after reaching the boat.

Looks great. The guy I fish with at Bennett was just talking this past weekend about needing to plan a trip to Wyoming sometime.

Here's some fun fishing pics from our trip to Florida. A little background: we were doing our family beach picture night, which is always a fiasco. We do it at "magic hour" (shortly before dusk). Well, we're doing our pictures, and a school of lady fish start busting bait like freaking crazy behind us. Just a massive school. I'm dying as the pictures are taking forever. Finally, the pics are over, I run and grab my rod.. and me and the boys proceeded to have a grand time:

We finally got enough rain this year that the local lakes have filled back up. I'm hoping to get back out there next year and Fish On. This sucks not having a water hole & not go all year but looks like I'm going gear up for next year.

Awesome pics dads fishing with their kids in this thread :thumb:

Awesome, looks like a beautiful place to spend time with the kids and teach them to love the outdoors... i am moving to an oceanfront town just as soon as humanly possible, cant imagine how much fun ocean fishing must be, a lunker from the local river or lake has nothing on what you might pull out of the ocean on a given day.

That said, i've had my best all around fishing year this summer... the first flathead and blue cats of my life, all between 15-25 pounds, several 5-7 pound bass, a HUGE drum about 15 pounds that fought like hell, several crappie caught while not even fishing for them and i've found some absolutely killer creeks chock full of fish that i bet no one has fished in ten years, they're waaay out in the boonies and worth every gallon of gas it takes to get there.

He caught that on a yellow ( not chartreuse) curly tail jig about 1.5 inches long. I was using a two Inch blue and white jig that we always slay em on. So was he. For some reason he changes to the yellow curly tail, and bam!
Then he caught about a 3/4 lb redear, which is a huge redear. **** me! Little man pretty much out fishes me now.

Still, when the Crappies are on, Morels are out and Wild Asparagus is ready, its a great time of year.

Couple of nice ones with my old boat... Wish I would have kept that boat, I had it set up nice... 15 HP Nissan engine, 14 ft live well and remote controlled Minn Kota.. had a remote the size of a car door opener... cool as hell , no foot pedal needed but it had one of those too

Had the front of that boat custom made with an am/fm with cd player and perfect carpeting

That is a nice day of fishing. It made me jealous, that's why I lashed out. The fishing fever is getting to me...

That day was incredible, I was culling 10 and 11 inch fish because I felt guilty keeping so many but we ate them and I have invested alot of dollars in that lake.

I haven't had a day close to that since...:deevee:

That is your best? Weak. Maybe if you held your rods in your hands instead of letting your dog watch them on the stands you would catch more.

Good luck man... Invest in a good lightweight life jacket to wear the whole time you are on the water to be safe. Especially with leg or balance problems... Hope you get a mess of them

The south has it so much better with fishing, warmer weather means a longer season to grow big and fat.

I bet R8ers folded laundry while she cleaned and cooked all those bad boys.

Here is a fantastic online fishing magazine…if for no other reason the photography is amazing. Interesting startup Reel Company from Bozeman is written up…reel will run 400 to 800 bucks a throw.

I signed up for it. I'm very into fly fishing. I've never been to Montana though. The magazine should be interesting.

got the cabin reserved for "men's river week". last week in june. big brother and I started it several years ago. this year it's me, him, his son, my 2 sons and grandson, brother in law and his son, and 2 cousins we pretty much grew up with. camp on current river the first and last night...stay at the cabin sunday through Thursday. always a blast. float, fish, and hit old stomping grounds.

picked up a new kayak last week. 10 ft sit on top. if the ice ever melts, i'll start taking it to a few lakes around here and start breaking it in.
sec
