Kind of similar to The Departed except Departed is about 10x better.

I remember when it came out at the theater, we walked out on the movie.

Very overrated even if it had two of Hollywoods best actors in it.

Saw Ruby Sparks. 5/10. Identical concept with different theme to Stranger Than Fiction. "Ruby" was fantastic for the role, however it was written by the actress so that can simplify things.

why couldn't Dark Shadows been an actual good movie? .. so much potential.

Watched Rocky Balboa for the second time last night, had only seen it once before a few years ago... really enjoyed it, i'd place it at #4 in the pantheon.

The whole angle of a video game fight sparking interest in his retun was timely and i thought he really recaptured that characters charm again, he captured the essence of Rocky once again.

About halfway through it the thought hit me that... "man, its good to have this guy back, i've really missed him".

Easy 6 08-14-2013 01:03 PM

Here Comes The Boom was pretty damn good, Kevin James flics usually arent that good, but this plenty of heart and yucks.

Also, Bas Rutten is a pretty fair actor for a jock, not bad at all.

I enjoyed it far more than I had anticipated. The believable factor was pretty low and there were a couple plot holes, but all in all, better than I anticipated.

it had a little bit of brilliant in it - the color quality was outstanding.

It was fun in an Adam's Family + Edward Scissorhands meets eighties satire comedy, horror - 'Saturday The 14th' ...sort of way.

Depp is somewhat ridiculous in his roles, etc.

Just rewatched The Matrix and The Matrix Reloaded for the first time in about 7 or 8 years, probably.

The first had such a great concept and, although the effects look like shit now, the action sequences were revolutionary. Reloaded got weird with the plot but I still enjoy it, but I won't even watch the last one. I'm going to pretend that one doesn't exist.

Neo is such a badass. The moment when he first discovered that he was "the one" at the end of the first film and pretty much any of his fight scenes thereafter were so awesome, but his fight with the thousand Smiths in Reloaded was a thing of beauty.

boy poor ole Keanu sure does get raked over the coals for his acting ability (or supposed lack thereof). buy mostly I like the movies he's in.....mostly.

this is probably Q...but saw this trailer recently at a movie and got into a bit of a discussion about his casting for this part.
not sure why he was cast...but he does know a bit about martial arts with all the training the cast members went thru for the matrix movies.
looks like a pretty good movie though. I know I will see it.

rented The Europa Report yesterday. somebody on here recommended it as a good sleeper movie. it was pretty good, but I was most disappointed in the way it ended. worth watching though and very nice special effects. looked like they spent some money on this thing.

I just watched River's Edge last night. I really do like that movie. Might have been type casting, perhaps, but he is pretty believable in one of his very first roles. He isn't a must see or a must avoid in most movies. The Replacements cracks me up too. It is one of my always-stop-on-it-when-channel-surfing movies.

Thats a weird movie, but pretty good at the same time. Crispin Glover and Dennis Hopper were freaks in that flick.

Heh, Jobs was seventh at the box office opening week with a measley $6,713,900 to show for it.

I knew Ashton Kutcher would **** it up the part.

DJJasonp 08-19-2013 09:20 PM

Watched "13" a few nights ago.....pretty gritty....Mickey Rourke has a bit part in it.

Think "Bloodsport" (the underground, illegal betting, etc.) but with "Russian Roulette" as the "game".

pretty intense.

The original (foreign film) won at Sundance I think.

That and no summer blockbuster interest in watching the story of the rise of a computer geek most know so much about already.

The Bill Gates story is actually probably more compelling.

For anyone who likes a good western, you gotta see "Heavens Gate", its from 81 and i seriously cant believe i'd never even heard of it.

Its from director Michael Cimino and has a stellar cast including Kris Kristofferson in the lead, Christopher Walken, Brad Dourif, Sam Waterston, Mickey Rourke, Jeff Bridges and several character actors you've seen in 100 things.

When you hear "period drama with lavish attention to detail"... its meant to describe this film, its just extremely detailed, one of the best parts is how it gives you a real sense of just what a bustling metropolis Casper Wyoming was back in those days, its takes you into the saloons, department stores, hotels etc... incredible realism.

Its a slightly fictionalized take on the "Johnson County War" when a group called the "Stockmens Association" literally went to war against, basically, the entire town, particularly immigrants who they hated for living on land that the association wanted used as cattle pasture. They had a list of 125 people they intended to murder in cold blood, and got around to quite a few of them... all with the governor and even the presidents approval.

I wont ruin the rest of it, but seriously, if you love a great western you gotta try to find it, its part of the Criterion Collection, its freaking ridiculous that i've never seen it in a video store or on tv.

It's a famous movie because it was basically a disaster.

Kristofferson very briefly mentions the fact that it wasn't at all well received in an interview in the extras, i could hardly believe it... story, acting, locations... its all there in spades.

The only thing i can possibly imagine people bitching about is its 3+ hour length.

It isn't just the making of Heaven's Gate that is fascinating, but also the whole United Artists story. The only independent studio, originally run by artists, then by a parent company that stayed mostly out of the creative process. After the financial disaster, UA was sold to a studio, effectively ending independent movies having wide distribution in 1980. Orion tried to do something similar, and was related by having ex-UA studio heads, but struggled by 1990 or so. Independent film had to reinvent itself leading to the independent boom of the 90s.

That was wildly simplified, but if you are interested in the history of the film business, the pre-MGM United Artists chapter is very interesting.

Buehler445 08-29-2013 06:11 PM

Director's cut of Kingdom of Heaven is quite enjoyable.

Easy 6 08-31-2013 04:38 PM

Watched two excellent movies last night...

Oblivion with Tom Cruise was actually pretty damn cool, easily the best thing i've seen him in since forever... its a visually striking movie not only for effects but just the cinematography, a very engaging story, one of the better sci-fi movies i've seen in a long time.

When Cruise can be icy cool and calculating, he's still actually very good... its when he's asked to show some kind of human warmth that he falls flat for me, he hasn't been able to show that kind of feeling since Jerry MaGuire.

And finally, Mud... its freaking GREAT, just rush out and get it, easily the best thing McConaughhey has ever done imo, that's the review, check it out.
