Carl has 2 wins and is standing strong in points. So far he's top 3 in my book to win it all.

Hard to argue that. He comes with good hardware and lots of heart/desire/drive, and he has all the talent anybody will ever need. Certainly has everything going for him.

I don't agree....and I am a Carl fan. I don't think he has the heart/desire/drive that he used to when he first got into racing. He is much too conservative with his driving these days in my opinion.

Well, as a Jeff Gordon fan I've sure had my days where I questioned my favorite driver's commitment by not racing in the NNS (just to know the track better for Sunday), but both of them were driving their asses off at the end of yesterday's race.

Could they both double-down on their commitment, sure. But I think this is what happens when you get a few years under your belt, married (to hot women), and all but live on the road.

Being conservative in racing is in no way a bad thing. Saving your car is actually smart, maybe if Kyle Busch saved his he would be more dominant. Check out the point standings and Carl is consistently finishing above average.

It's not the number of races or racing in the NNS.....I just don't think he has the killer instinct he first had when he was making his way up the ladder.

Is it odd that he seemed to fade a bit right after he got married?

I understand conservative racing, especially in restrictor plate or Sonoma-style racing. But too many times over the past couple of years it just seemed like he was hanging back hoping for a wreck which would allow him to sneak to the front.

And it rarely happened.

Not odd at all. More often than not getting married will fulfill par of your life, but it becomes a distraction to the career. Not always, but more often than not I'll opine.

It might be a good idea to start the race now - Occasional thunderstorms likely to begin at 8:30 pm.
