The Saints and 49'ers had a deal in place...a 7th round pick! Then the 49'ers released him.

Bowman can join the ugliest human in the world as a brokedick getting paid by the Raiders. It won't matter. He can't ****ing play anymore.

Of course there is "strong mutual interest" between Bowman and the Raiders. Oakland is godawful on defense and in need of ANY help, and Bowman has a house in the bay area.

I wonder if Carl circa 1998 is whispering in JDR's ear right now.

There it is

Bowman can play. Those dismissing him are talking out of their arses. Whether anyone wants to pay future talent to rent him for the short remainder of his career is a different issue. H e could help a lot of teams.

And that's why the Niners are cutting him midseason when a veteran like Bowman can be tremendously influential for all the young players on that defense and around the team.

Your argument is not illogical, but it isn't what's happening. Bowman is still playing at a high level, but he's not much better than Ray Ray Armstrong in run support, and Armstrong and Foster are the future. With the 49ers 0-5 they are looking to the future and starting to give their younger players playing time.

As of last week the 49ers were 8th in run defense, and those numbers were skewed by Marlon Mack consistently getting outside of containment (Armistead not setting the edge and Tartt getting caught inside). Bowman will help any team on the field.

BTW, just because a player has many years in the league, doesn't mean he's a leader in the lockerroom. I have never heard Bowman being a defensive leader. He just plays at a high level.

I think the plan kind of blew up in their face. They have every reason to get Foster in at mlb now, and probably figured they'd get a little value out of Bowman. When they found out the best they could do was a 7th, they chose to respect Bowmans wishes.

He's not going to be an all pro, but he's not straight garbage heap either.

So why don't they just keep him? They already owe him his salary for the year. They don't save anything by cutting him.

CaliforniaChief 10-15-2017 06:10 PM

BUMP.

MahiMike 10-15-2017 06:48 PM

At this point they should go get Brian Bosworth, juice him up and put him in.

Lynch has brought in a new attitude to the 49ers. I heard an interview of Lynch when they released Ahmad Brooks, in which he said that he tries to look at deals from the player's perspective and to honor requests so long as the requests were consistent with the team's goals. They felt that Eli Harold would be getting more playing time this year to groom him as Brooks' replacement. Brooks said he wanted his release so he could seek a starter's role elsewhere on a winning team, so Lynch honored his request. When asked why, Lynch said that getting a reputation around the league of being player friendly will make a team a desired destination for players. there is a full on youth movement going at the 49ers. Don't be surprised if Joe Staley is traded in the coming weeks.
