Fact is, most draft picks on every team suck.

No team has a great draft every year.

True. We shouldn't expect to find talent in the draft.

Especially not with this franchise.

Chiefs still playing football as if it were 1975.

The game day planning and on the field play calling will be night and day better than Romeo but the personnel is just more of the same.

But there's only one who has never had a great draft.

The Kansas City Chiefs.

I just listened to the Catapano interview and he's going to end up the next camp/fan favorite. He'll end up being a good player too though.

You have a problem drafting a TE in the third? Are you serious?

This was a Pioli type of draft.

We added 1 (perhaps 2 if Houston isn't ready) day 1 starters.

Our first two picks were on positions where we already had solid starters.

Best pick's in team history and we end up with good depth.


The only positives were we did need depth at HB, C, and DB...

Best picks in team history in arguably one of the worst talent pools in NFL history. It's amazing how shitty our luck is sometimes.

Way too soon to judge the last 3 picks. 6th and 7th rounders go to the scouts and if your scouts are good, you can often find a gem nobody is talking about. Dorsey's showed some inexperience running the show, but he's very proven in his ability to scout, which I think explains why he took a few names late that we've never heard about.

The Chiefs entered the 2013 NFL Draft with the first pick — and a great shot at addressing their biggest need. They did just that. With another draft in the books, here’s a look at how Kansas City fared.

What they needed: Offensive tackle, running back, inside linebacker, outside linebacker, tight end.

Who they got:
Round 1 (1): Eric Fisher, OT, Central Michigan.
Round 3 (63): Travis Kelce, TE, Cincinnati.
Round 3 (96): Knile Davis, RB, Arkansas.
Round 4 (99): Nico Johnson, ILB, Alabama.
Round 5 (134): Sanders Commings, DB, Georgia.
Round 6 (170): Eric Cush, C, California (Pa.).
Round 6 (204): Braden Wilson, FB, Kansas State.
Round 7 (207): Mike Catapano, DE, Princeton.

Where they hit: If Fisher is even an above-average left tackle, the Chiefs will have done well taking him No. 1 overall considering the value of his position. The Chiefs can control his rights for up to five years. Kelce doesn’t lack for talent, and if he can avoid off-field missteps, he figures to be a key part of the TE mix in the coming years. Johnson, an experienced contributor for a powerful Alabama defense, strengthens a position of need.

Where they missed: All things considered, the Chiefs did well to address areas that had to be bolstered. Down the road, outside linebacker could be a need, but the Chiefs still have Tamba Hali and Justin Houston signed through 2015. In the short term, there were other priorities that rated more highly.

Impact rookies: Fisher will be an immediate starter on the line. The question now is whether the Chiefs deal Branden Albert, removing any doubt that the No. 1 overall pick will start on the left side. Travis Kelce, the brother of Jason Kelce, whom Andy Reid coached in Philadelphia, could vie for immediate playing time. Johnson also looms a threat to compete right off the bat at inside linebacker. Finally, Wilson may have a shot at stepping right in at fullback.

Long-term prospects: The 5-11, 227-pound Davis has exceptional speed for his size, but his durability is a concern, as are fumbles. If he plays sound and stays healthy, he can help this offense. But can he back up Jamaal Charles in Year One? Commings, Cush and Catapano figure to compete for reserve roles in 2013. The Chiefs are also reportedly bringing in undrafted QB Tyler Bray. He’s talented, but he will have to be a professional in all areas if he’s going to make the roster.

I was thinking it was 4 years now. Maybe that's the lower rounds.
