I also believe the same can be said for Matt Barkley.

I'd be happier than one of Hog Farmer's hogs when he goes to work if we drafted either one, and risked failure in the pursuit of excellence.

But I have zero expectation that will happen.

I really like Barkley, maybe for the wrong reasons, but I sure as hell wish he hadn't injured his shoulder.

Let's clear a few things up:
If the Chiefs draft Geno Smith...
1. HE will be the backup.
2. Chase Daniel is only slated to make $1.8m this season.

Yes, and by a team that at least one of the posters in this thread said would certainly NOT take him.

Shit happens in sport every year that had never happened before. Chase Daniel being a #3 QB is hardly inconceivable, even if he is getting 3 or 5 million or whatever.

No team pays their 3rd string QB $3-$5 million a year to hold the clipboard.

If they are alike than ok. Alex Smith was drafted #1 overall so that means Geno is deserving of being #1 overall. Geno is a hell of a lot better than Alex on his deep ball and mobility.

How is it a bargain, let alone, a "huge bargain"?

You've paid a guy $10 million or more to "learn". You have to extend him at that point, so you're committed to $26 million plus before he's even started a game in the NFL.

That sounds reeruned, not like a "bargain".

Before the new CBA, teams had to commit over double that JUST IN THEIR SIGNING BONUS for first overall picks.

How much did Aaron Rodgers get from GB before be played a down?

How about Eli?

Carson Palmer?

You get a rookie first round qb for 5 years at less than 30 million now...the reward far outweighs the risk in this scenario.

It is irrelevant due to different a pay scale.

Not really, the team still had to commit that much money to a lesser position.

I thought he makes 3.33 mil.

He signed a 3/10 mil deal I thought.

Palmer signed a six year deal worth $40 million. And while I agree, it's a little more than what the top pick would paid this year, there wasn't the extra caveat of deciding after Year Two of picking up Year Five.

He was locked in for a full five, regardless of whether or not he sit or played.

Yep.

Nearly every other position is being devalued, as evidenced by the 2013 free agency period.
