Quick couple of questions... Are we energy independent today, or dependent? Are we asking/begging the Saudis and Venezuela to increase production? You are a true rube...

And that somehow increases gas prices all over the world. Dummy.

We are dependent on crude and refined imports now, and we have been something like 1952. If you define "energy independent" as being a net exporter, that happened most recently in 2016.

It's a tricky definition.

LMAO... If their gross profits have nearly doubled in dollars, which the article claims, at the same time oil prices have doubled, this mean their ROE/ROI is about the same, which, as any business understands, is a necessity to staying viable. However, rubes like you get to say "oil companies are killing it..." as you scream at the sky.

I was going to dive in but thanks for taking the bullet. Good luck!

I thought you said that but thanks for clarifying. I enjoy your input on this thread and was curious.

And yes, the energy companies are of course seeing record profits in terms of revenue since one of their primary products has basically doubled in price. But their profit margins are still about 9%, which really isn't that high comparatively. Projections are that their PM will go up this year to the 12% range.

Sure. The $5.00 was a Bugeater edit. The original thread title that I created in 2008 was $4.00.

The mods will have to change it to $6 in a month or two.

Won't have to wait that long for me. $5.90 up here now. And if it's that bad here in the burbs, it's gotta be over $6 in Chicago/Cook County.

That would be stunning and I don't think we'll get there unless additional factors come into play.

Again, in July 2008, gasoline hit $4.14 on crude pricing of $146/barrel. Adjusted for inflation, those are $5.56/gallon and $196/barrel in 2022 dollars.

5.50 a gallon in Kirkland Washington. I think he’ll have to edit this thread to 6.00 a gallon pretty soon.
