He's a career 95 OPS+ guy vs. Getz (69 career OPS+). And he has played a handful (4-6) games at 2B at the MLB level. If he can be had for minimal cost, and cover second base, he'd definitely make us better. Nothing to pop champagne corks over except that it might mean the end of Getz. |
If the Royals are going to go for it, you do it now.
I think they need to look hard at Kendrick. As far as im concerned Zimmer is untouchable and you may have to trade ventura or duffy to get him, maybe even another pitcher. Royals cant sit on this deadline or they may as well have traded Santana. **** Rios, he's a sack of shit |
Willingham through waivers would be real nice for RF, power hitter

Nice. We just passed the 8005 post mark, which is important for obvious calculator humor reasons.

His death brought some similar thought to what is being discussed today. Whitey Herzog used to bitch that Joe Burke wouldn't spend Mr K's money and get him a RH power bat all through the winning 70's. Finally, In 79 Burke acquires Boomer. Who, in 40 games hit exactly one HR. It was a classic Boomer Scott HR. A rising line drive that landed half way up the grass over the 385 sign in LC field. By the time we got him, Scott had practically eaten himself out of the league. Of course it was too little, too late as we lost the division to the Angels. We shouldn't have, and the Angels were very good, but the Royals were a better team. One other thing I remember: when KC released him, the Yankees picked Scott up. Reggie was with the Yankees and said after a late game and post dinner and disco in NY, GS wanted to go eat. AGAIN. Reggie, in the quote said, "I ain't going to eat at 3am. There's no place open other than Duncan Donuts". Bye Boomer. RIP. |

I remember when we got him I thought, "Cool! George Scott!" Then I remember he hit only 1 HR. And that's it. |
Barely remember he was a Royal. In '79, girls took priority over the Royals. RIP George.

He's not a home run hitter, but Erick Aybar has pretty legit BA and SLG numbers. His highest WAR is in the neighborhood of 4.4. He's also a decent base runner. Thoughts?
|
Kendrick over Aybar or do nothing IMO...
More power from kendrick GMDM will trade for Aybar, watch |
Indians win tonight on a walkoff homer from 98 year old Jason Giambi. You gotta be kidding.

Didn't the Sox have a runner on third with less than 2 outs in the top of the 9th, too? Just a ****ing joke.

Deez do you see this team going places if they sign Kenny Lofton to be the lead off hitter?

I'm pretty sick of the Indians

I have never checked scores like this or watched games for the Royals opponents. It's fun but I wish they would lose for crying out loud.

I wouldn't be upset with that at all. |

I'm not advocating Luke for Aviles. It was mentioned to me by a buddy of mine.
I wouldn't be upset with it though. |

Mediocre is miles better than Getz, I suppose. However, knowing Dayton and his love for a terrible .OPS, he'll probably attach some B-level prospect to the deal which will invoke the wrath of us all. |

Passan's proposal is about what I'd expect and it would be fair value for both teams.

I would still prefer to keep Duffy over Ventura assuming he is healthy.

I'd still much rather do that deal without including Duffy, if it is happening. Just a bigger believer in him as a starter than with Ventura (Duffy is also more ready to contribute at MLB-level next season). |
The problem remains:GMDM is never the smartest guy in the room.
|
Couldn't we call up Duffy right now? And, if we're really "going for it," this needs to happen immediately. Continuing to start Davies is Barnyard dumb.

From 810: Davies ERA against the Sox this year is below 2. Against everyone else, it's above 6.

Also, I think that piece has the Royals giving up more than any of the other teams.
Orioles: Schoop (has prospect buzz but underwhelmed at AA last year and has been hurt most of this season) and Zach Britton (similar MLB stats to Duffy, but with much less promising peripherals) Rockies: Josh Rutledge (a nice 2B/SS prospect, offensive-minded guy) and Chad Bettis (24-YO RHP of smaller stature, coming off TJ, but with good minor league numbers and K rate) Tigers: Hernan Perez (Career .640 OPS in minors), Avisail Garcia (can't beat out Don Kelly, Andy Dierks for a starting spot, though maybe this is a Getz v. Giavotella situation?) and Jake Thompson (good numbers, but he's 19 and at A-ball) A's: Jemile Weeks (still has some buzz and is intriguing because of past success), Paul Alcantara (posting solid numbers at Hi-A) and Michael Ynoa (also at Hi-A, also solid numbers) Duffy, Schoop and Rutledge are the most highly regarded pieces out of that lot. I don't think either the Rockies or the O's packages have as much value as KC's does past the primary piece. If the suggested price for the other teams is accurate, something like Duffy + Gio would be more comparable. And I'd still rather do that as Ventura+Gio. |

Side note: Gordon Beckham's girlfriend has a brother for Omaha.

I like Duffy too but he's had TJ already. That obviously hurts his value quite a bit. Plus the dude quit the game once before. Trouble throwing strikes. He has some high upside but some serious red flags.

His minor league walk rate is actually pretty good prior to this year (110 BB in 350 IP is a pretty solid rate). He obviously walked a lot of guys in the majors and has walked more than you'd like this year, but his 3.72 BB rate is not crazy high, and it has improved/lowered as the season has gone on. |
I was just reading on MLB.com that Kendrick can block a trade to 12 different teams. I wonder if the Royals are on that list? And if so, I wonder if he would think we are doing okay and would allow the trade anyways.

I don't think we're going to make any moves, but it won't be for a lack of trying. I get the feeling that GMDM vastly overrates the talent on his rosters and will be asking too much to give up a player. On the flip side of that, I think he will offer too little trying to get a legit player at either 2b or RF.
Either way he has the comfort of reporting to Glass that he tried but was stonewalled by the other clubs in his attempts to acquire/trade players. |

ESPN's Jayson Stark begins his latest column with a look at the Biogenesis situation. As Joel Sherman of the New York Post first reported, suspension announcements are not expected today. Sherman expects the announcements to come Thursday or Friday. In Stark's opinion, the Rangers are acting like a team that knows what Nelson Cruz will do if suspended, in that their aggressive search for a bat suggests he might serve a suspension now to preserve his free agent value. Meanwhile, the Tigers' lack of pursuit of a backup plan to shortstop Jhonny Peralta suggests he'll appeal. Elsewhere in Stark's column: The Dodgers and Angels, who haven't made a trade in 20 years, had a "mostly casual conversation" regarding Halos second baseman Howie Kendrick. There are no indications a deal is in the works. The Angels are at least listening on infielders Kendrick, Erick Aybar, and Alberto Callaspo, and seeking high quality big league ready pitching in return. The Cubs could move Kevin Gregg and Nate Schierholtz, but are extremely unlikely to trade lefty reliever James Russell and there's just about zero chance of a Jeff Samardzija trade. Pitchers Ian Kennedy and J.J. Putz of the Diamondbacks and Kyle Farnsworth of the Rays "have suddenly been made available." Trading Kennedy would allow Arizona to clear around $1.4MM toward another move. Are they that hard up for cash? |
The Royals were 4 games over .500 in April, 5 in June, and 3 in July so far. If we finish on average 4 games over .500 in each of the next two months that puts us at 85-77.
Last season the two wildcard teams, Baltimore and Texas finished at 93-69. Boston and Tampa are strong but it seams the other teams in front of us in the wild card this season are not nearly as strong as last season. I think the wildcard can be had for under 90 wins. We will need to probably find 3-4 more games in the next two months above what we have done in order to have a chance. And we will definitely need to help ourselves by beating Cleveland and Detroit. |

This has to be the first season in many that we have a winning record at home(so far), yes? Sometimes I feel like the K is the toughest place to play.

Royals, seeking 2B upgrade, have discussed Beckham, Kendrick July 30, 2013 2:14 PM ET The Royals, looking for upgrades at second base and in right field, have had discussions about Gordon Beckham of the White Sox and Howie Kendrick of the Angels, according to sources. There was no indication Tuesday that the Royals were close on a deal for either player, or any other trade, for that matter. While they still won't completely rule out dealing starter Ervin Santana, he was still scheduled to pitch Tuesday night against the Twins as the Royals try to extend their six-game winning streak. While the Royals would prefer not to give up on this season, their interest as a possible buyer would be in players they could control beyond 2013. Beckham and Kendrick are both under control through 2015. A deal for either one wouldn't be simple. The Angels are now open to discussing Kendrick, but would want players (most likely pitchers) who would impact their club in 2014. And it's not clear how comfortable the White Sox would be with trading Beckham within the division. As reported here last week, the Royals have also shown some interest in White Sox outfielder Alex Rios. |

If thinking if the Sox don't mind to keep giving us their second basemen (Getz may have been a FA, don't remember), then I think we probably shouldn't make that trade, you know?
How good is Beckham, anyway? He has to be stronger at the plate then anything we have currently, but how is his defense? |
