I should add that not only did they say that Cassel was not allowed to check off under Haley, they also said one of the things the QB's liked about this offense was the freedom to check off plays. In other words it was more than apparent that Haley was not allowing Cassel to audible. And I don't find that surprising at all.

Explain how it is this was proven to you.

They said during the broadcast that one of the things Cassel is enjoying is the ability to make calls at the LOS. He didn't have that freedom previously.

pleasantly surprised with DMC tonight.

That's were we need him to be ... slot WR where he doesn't have to make people miss. He can just be quick and let the route lead him to space.

Wherever he is I'm sure Gaz shed a tear or two of joy this evening...

Is what we saw tonight from the Chiefs considered a "vanilla" offense common in pre-season?

Entertaining, even if so.

Also, was the ice on Charles' knee just precautionary?

HULK HATE MATT CASSELL!!! HULK SMAAASH!!!

I'm starting to agree with #Chiefs fans - national media (ESPN included) has fallen asleep on KC. They may be team to beat in AFC West.

Yes. Precautionary.

And my God, it was more than obvious. I mean seriously, I don't even think Cassel with his inexperience is so dumb to call a run up the gut consistently against 8 and 9 man fronts. You could just tell that was the play that was called and damn it that's what was going to get run because Haley said so.

Yeah he was in for a few plays. Mostly blocking.

I'm just pleased not to have that nasty aftertaste in my mouth of being force fed a first preseason game out of the bucket shit sandwich loss. In fact, this game left an explosion of minty goodness on my pallet.

I think so because as I understand it Daboll uses a lot of motion and such to create match ups. Much like under the DV era we won't see a lot of that motion and such until the regular season.

Last year at this time, the Chiefs were losing 25-0 to the Bucs. (!!!)

agreed. I have been calling for Cassel's head and he has much to prove to keep me from desiring it, but this was the first start towards him keeping it.
